Book Description

7 Oct 2010

There was once a group of trees who were fed up with living in a deep, dark and crowded valley - so they moved to the enchanted forest. But as everybody knows, trees cannot walk without magic. This is the story of how Jack, the small boy with the frozen touch, wanders in to the forest and ends up saving the magic from the greedy goblins outside. An exquisitely illustrated and beautifully told story.

'An enchanting story, perfect for frosty nights.' - Junior

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic! 20 Feb 2004

i absolutely loved this book - the pictures are kooky and absolutely adorable (and not in a sickly cute way either), and the story's very well told. great creatures too. i may be 19, but this book's on my wish list for sure...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jack Frost 31 Mar 2006
My son who is 2 and a half absolutely loves this book. It's not one of the those pretty story books with bright colours but instead has a sinister side to it with goblins and scary trees. Not too scary I might add - just enough to get their imaginations working. It also includes kooky fantasy animals in a magical forest. My son knows this book off by heart. A bit long for a night-time read but a must for little ones.

This is another good story by David Mellings. The children loved the tale of someone waking up in the forest. At first they thought the animals might eat the boy. It had them thrilled when the goblins came and roaring with laughter at the thought of them smelling like cabbage and when they got stuck to the ice. This is a great story for children of all ages. The book arrived on time and in good condition. It is a feel good story and now the frosty nights are starting to come in the children now feel they know who Jack Frost is because they see what he looks like in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jack Frost 13 Dec 2004
By Book Worm - Published on
I purchased this book for my son who is 3 years and 4 months old. Although the book is aimed at ages 7 plus I thought this book was an excellent purchase and a fantastic book to read. My son was totally mesmerised by the illustrations and the story of the little boy in the enchanted forest and the goblins who wanted the magic for themselves. This must be one of the first books that has really captured his attention and his imagination. In the few hours that we have owned this book I must have read it a million times. This truely is a wonderful book for any child or parent to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting tale, beautifully drawn 4 Jan 2005
By David C. Hill - Published on
My 4.5-year-old loves this. I got a copy (softcover) in the airport book shop in Glasgow on business, and it became her instant favorite bed time story.

While I agree to a degree with the reviewer above that complains about too many unpolished points (the book reads, sometimes, like a trimmed-down version of a longer tale), there's still an absurd logic to the whole thing. And, frankly, if that leads to question and further story-telling after the book is done, all the better.

My grandson loved this book so much when we had it out from the library that I looked on Amazon to find a copy to buy for him. He LOVES the illustrations, which are amazing. We both have the story memorized, I've read it to him so many times.
