My kids (ages 2 and 4) both love this book, but I have to admit that I bought it because I love Ogden Nash's poetry. The illustrations in this book are hilarious and full of action. They fit together very well with Nash's tale, and I think that the message this book gives about the difference between acting brave and being brave is appropriate for children.

I now have to get the other Custard book, "Custard the Dragon and the Wicked Knight."

I loved this entertaining and lively story when I was young and my 2 year old is addicted to it now! The rhymes are easy for him to become familiar with and he loves joining in at the end of the lines. He really likes the illustrations too and pours over the details. The gorgeous use of words make it a pleasure to read this to him over and over.

I have used this tale for many years as a teacher and have always loved it, and was delighted to find it in a book so well illustrated. I bought it for my 6 year old grandson who thoroughly enjoyed it.
