Product Description

Product Description

'Taking up the challenge' is the story of one man's determination to find an answer to the question we will all ask at some time or another - Is there life after death? When Eric Hatton's much-loved brother was killed in1946, he was determined to embark on his own investigation. Thus began a quest for evidence which has so far spanned more than six decades. During that time Eric has become one of Spiritualism's best-known figures, respected for his transparent integrity and the level-headed approach he brings to the examination of evidence for survival beyond death. An accomplished speaker and broadcaster, Eric has shared a platform with many of the greatest mediums the Spiritualist movement has produced. Though his experiences of the next world - some of them breathtaking - have left him with a complete conviction of the reality of the afterlife, his career as a successful businesman has meant that his feet have always been planted firmly on the ground. Eric's extraordinary story is at times challenging and at others heartwarming. Above all, it is the startlingly honest and inspiring account of a man who had to find out the truth for himself.

From the Author

Those who know and have worked alongside Sue Farrow, the former editor of Psychic News, have long been aware of her considerable ability in the journalistic field. It is only by working with her, which has been my privilege over the past year, that I have fully recognised the extent of her talent in this demanding profession.
Without her collaboration as editor of my autobiography, as well as her guidance in the relaying of my life's chapters, the book would not have been possible, for while the details of my experiences have been mine alone, the moulding and compiling of them has been Sue's. Thanks to her cannot be enough for the times when she has been my mentor during the process of writing, particularly when hurdles arose and had to be negotiated.
In preparing the book, there were occasions when I wondered whether some of my experiences were so unusual as to give rise to scepticism and doubt in the mind of my readers, despite the fact that they represent a true and accurate record. At such times these doubts were always discussed with Sue and reasoned out by her.
If, therefore, you find this book enjoyable as well as challenging, it is in large part due to Sue, for, though many others have asked me to share my experiences, without her my story would never have been told.

Excellent Reading 13 May 2011
brilliant book , a history in the making of the past leading up to the present of Modern Spiritualism, written without ego,by an honourable gentleman, possibly the last charismatic leader of Spiritualism, written as eloquently as he speaks. - An inspiring read from an inspiring man.

Good read 9 May 2011
I loved this book. Perhaps because I know Eric and also a lot of the people he mentions in the book. Well written, just the way he speaks.

Mr Eric Hatton's book, is,as one would expect of such a great gentleman, written in beautiful English, which is a pleasure indeed, in these days of sloppy grammar and bad editing. His subject is his life, and the life of all of us, if truth be known. His style is, like the man himself, kindly, calm, selfless and spiritual - in the very highest sense of that word.Every Spiritualist, or seeker after truth, should make this book a part of their library - it is a fount of blessings. We can all, whatever our religious views, profit from true goodness and broad-mindedness like Eric Hatton's - such rare gifts, and such wonderful experiences! IT has lifted the heart and strengthened my spirit, and I am sure it will help others, of whatever faith, but especially those of us who have chosen to be Spiritualists.
