BJH's Harvest years have been piecemeal chronicled so many times over so many titles and releases that you'd be forgiven for thinking this is just the next in an endless sequence. In fact what we have here is everything they committed to recorded media, presented chronologically, and even includes the Bombadil sideline experiment. Everything here is available on other CD sets, but not everything together in one place at one time. The running order, while chronological, means that original albums are interrupted and spread over adjacent discs, but this presents no problem if yu transfer everything to iTunes and use the "disc number" facility to ensure correct sequencing (how many people forget to do that??). We all have our favourite albums and mine is Other Short Stories.

I had already purchased Once Again and decided to get this set which also contains Once Again plus 4 more CDs of tracks from the other albums the band recorded from 1968 to 1973.
What I enjoy about Barclay James Harvest is the beautiful melodies and production they put into their music.
This box set is timeless with many great songs that really captivate and move me.
I am very glad I was able to discover Barclay James Harvest.

There are many such boxes appearing which give a clutch of key albums at a reasonable price. Barclay James Harvest wer an underrated prog outfit often compared with moody blues but with their own sound. Can't fault the music on this box, but i wish more thought was give to the running order, so that albums aren't split onto 2 discs. Ok they were split on vinyl and can be played in sequence on mp3, but sometimes you want slap on a cd and listen to an album in sequence - I know I do. I'd still recommend this set as any cds are a great listen, and there's much great music here, but lacking the cohesiveness of some individual albums. So great music, but compilers take note - albums are more important than strict chronology. Robin Trower set makes same mistake, but again the music is great.

This was BJH`s poor man`s moody blues period.

It has a real charm about it , even if the strings seem overdone and it shows where the moniker that stuck with them came from.
The remasters are remarkable - crystal clear, especially to anyone who grew up with these on scratchy vinyl.

It loses one star simply because it isnt half as good as the 74 -78 studio period , and as the packaging is confusing .
It would have been less confusing to have an album on each cd with bonus tracks after the album and on the extra cd`s.

No matter , superb value and a must for anyone who is more familiar with their later albums and would like the early stuff in one double cd sized package.
