Nice plot, easy read and steamy enough to not be too hard to read on the bus. I'm thinking of moving to L.A.

A fairy story, pure and simple. Country boy hitches to LA to seek fame and fortune. I cannot believe that you can meet so many altruistic people purely by chance, and that was why this was a fairy story, it was completely up there in the realms of fantasy. I couldn't relate to the characters and they seemed a little one dimensional, the connection between me as a reader and the story just wasn't there. I like to immerse myself in the story but in this tale I just couldn't identify, and it wasn't because of the plot. Everything was too easy, it was all down pat, everyone being beautiful and kind with the exception of one person. This doesn't deter me from reading others by this author, who knows, it may appeal to you more than it did me.

Small town boy does good... 30 April 2012
By MDP - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Sweet small town boy Ryan, barely 18, having hitched his way from Nebraska has the good luck of being picked up by an older man in Las Vegas on his way to LA. Starting off his lucky streak he finds a place to crash with a sweet older gay couple, and has a pretty smooth way of it from the get go.

The only thing not going for Ryan is his choice in men, a particular one in fact, Sam Lockwood, who we were introduced to in "Down and Dirty" and again with his own story, "The Last Hard Man" (timeline runs in conjunction with this novel).

After being rejected by Sam, Ryan finds himself meeting a drool inducing LAPD cop, sparks fly and soon the two are dating. Insecurity and doubt play on our cop as he deals with the implications of dating a truly beautiful boy-man. I can hardly wait for the angst! With this in mind It reads like a beginning of a longer series (I hope) with Ryan making his way with a new relationship and celeb status in Hollywood.

Cameos from Ms. Hauser's universe appear including the Richfield men, Sam Lockwood has a major role and of course Adam Lewis is our boy's agent. As always the men are hot and the action with said men are even steamier. Mmmmm.

PS. Amazon would not pick up "The Last Hard Man" due to uh, issues, you can find it on several other e-readers sites for sale, one of Ms. Hauser's hottest books by far.

Fantasy 31 July 2012
By JEFFERY WEBER - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
One long fantasy. Everything works for aspiring model and/or actor Ryan who is about to turn 18 years old at the beginning of the story. Of course it helps that he is physically very attractive and seems to be a nice guy. Too many coincidences. Nothing bad ever happens. With one exception, no ups and downs. Nothing seems real, as in this is all a pleasant but boring dream.

A Joy to Enjoy 4 May 2012
By Richard F. Casson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Ryan is a 17 year old boy from Nebraska who is innocent but knows he is gay and wants desparately to be able to become a celebrity in Hollywood as either an actor or a model. He has the guts to hitchhike accross the country to accomplish his unlikely ambitions. Fortunately, while hitching outside of Las Vegas, he is picked up by an older gay gentleman who together with his husband of 30 years takes Ryan under their wings, without any ulterior motives, and helps him start out on a path to unusually quick success. After accepting their hospitality for a short while, but not wanting to take advantage of their generosity, he sets out on his own, getting a busboy job and an appartment in West Hollywood while staying in touch with and maintaining a loving relationship with his now surrogate parents (or perhaps grandparents). Thus starts a book which I consider unique in the M/M Gay Erotic genre in that in this book all of the characters, with one possible exception, are good people, doing good things for each other without any of the pitfalls usually encountered in this genre. Ryan first falls for Sam, a hunky tatoo artist, but his crush comes to naught; however, he soon meets and falls in love with an LA cop, Barrett. Much hot sex soon follows. Sam is the possible exception to whom I referred, but in reality, Sam too is a good guy though to understand him one needs to read two of GA's prior books, Down and Dirty (the name of the tatoo parlor Sam where Sam is employed) and The Last Hard Man which is Sam's story and a very hot one at that. Unfortunately, you cannot buy The Last Hard Man in paperback or e-book from Amazon, but you can buy the e-book from other sellers whom you will be referred to at GA Hauser's web site. This is a stand alone book, however, and can be read and enjoyed even if you have not read those two previous books. GA Hauser has written nearly 70 books, of which I have read about 98% and I have enjoyed nearly every one. But I really think that I loved Taking Ryan more than any of her other books except for the Action Series books. If you want to indulge yourself, take a few hours, put them aside, get into your most comfortable chair with a cold drink and a snack, and read this wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable book with the only drawback being that it ends. Happily, Ryan and his lover, Barrett do not end as they will appear in books yet to be published by GA including in her Action Series books. So even though you may regret that this book actually has to end, you can look forward to enjoying more of most of the delightful characters that you have met in this joyous, angst-free and sexually hot book.

Could It Get More Unrealistic? 11 Feb. 2014
By E. Jett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
What a Guy. First he gets picked up while hitching from Nebraska by a wealthy retired gay man who takes him to his home where he lives with his partner. So fortunately they know Hollywood photographers. See, 17 yo Ryan has come to Hollywood to be an actor. With his first attempt he lands a job for thirteen dollar an hour. Also he finds a place to live (in West Hollywood, mind you) for $200 a month with a transvestite and buys a car. On his first audition, he gets hired for a sitcom. This boy must sleep with the angels. Other reviews give more details about his book, but suffice it to say that it is possibly one of the worst books I have tried to read. The sex scenes were a real yawn. Hauser may have written 80 book, but this is one she should have skipped. It is nothing more than an extremely unrealistic tail. Pass it up.

A Great Followup to Last Hard Man 6 May 2012
By Larry H. Mullen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book was a real delight to read. Nothing too kinky for anyone! Its the story of what happened to the young man rejected by a jerk in The Last Hard Man. Not available on Amazon but you can find it. The characters in this book are young and fresh and just the kind of guys you'd like to know. I certainly hope that we see more of them in the future. I also liked the addition of the two older gents who helped Ryan out in the beginning. I sorta feel a kinship to them as I fit that age bracket. I also like the way that the author weaves in her characters from past stories. Its like a big family!
