Product Description

Product Description

The reader will 'grow their creative wings' by joining the author on a creative journey through seven stages of Taking Flight, from learning to find the sacred in the ordinary, to listening to the whispers of their subconscious minds, to facing their innermost fears. Along the way, the reader's creative process will be deeply inspired by thoughtful prompts, meaningful quotes, probing questions to ask themselves, the author's own vivid artwork, and that of seven talented contributing artists working in a variety of mediums. And the reader will learn, step-by-step, 28 of the author's and the contributors' favorite mixed-media techniques and how to apply them to their own artwork.

I've been a follower of kelly rae's journey via her blog for some time and was very interested to see how it translated into this book. The answer is, as far as I'm concerned, brilliantly well!

It's a "how to" book with a lot of heart, but not too much smulch. By sharing her experiences of awakening to her creative self and how she took action to turn this into living an everyday creative life she inspires and delights. The projects shared are also clearly and practically described, doable and yet stretching for artists of various levels of experience and incorporate her own techniques as well as those contributed by other inspirational artists. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting and am now dipping in again to enjoy it at my leisure.

I think most significantly she does convince one that it's possible to take flight as a creative person, whatever the starting point of that journey.

Taking flight: Inspiration and Techniques to Give Your Creative Spirit Wings.
I have found this book perfect for my present state of creative block. The author chats in a very easy and friendly manner and makes you feel that you really can move on in your own way. She guides you through several chapters, chatting and encouraging you along the way to try and listen to yourself and what you actually want to get out of your creative life. She appears to share what she has gone through herself, sharing her thoughts and experiences. They seem real and comfortingly familiar. I don't particularly care for the actual designs that she has used in the book.....but it has prompted me to think of elements that I might like to use that I WOULD like. The author is after all trying to encourage us to develop our own wings and not purely copy hers.
