Stretch Your Wings, Learn to Soar, Take Flight

In Taking Flight, you'll find overflowing inspiration--complete with a kindred spirit in author and mixed-media artist Kelly Rae Roberts. Join her on a fearless journey into the heart of creativity as you test your wings and learn to find the sacred in the ordinary, honor your memories, speak your truth and wrap yourself in the arms of community.

Along the way you'll be inspired by:

  • Step-by-step techniques--learn the most-loved mixed-media methods of the author and seven talented contributing artists, and combine them in fresh and unexpected ways.
  • Thought-provoking prompts and quotes--along with encouraging stories, insights and gentle guidance for finding your bliss, whatever your art or craft.
  • Plenty of eye-candy--pages and pages of the author's endearing artwork, along with the varied works of the contributors.
Of course, learning to fly isn't entirely a step-by-step process--sooner or later, you just need to take a deep breath and spread your wings. With Taking Flight as your guide, there's no doubt that when you do, your creativity will soar.

5.0 out of 5 stars All it promises and more 17 Sep 2008
By KLG
Format:Paperback
I've been a follower of kelly rae's journey via her blog for some time and was very interested to see how it translated into this book. The answer is, as far as I'm concerned, brilliantly well!

It's a "how to" book with a lot of heart, but not too much smulch. By sharing her experiences of awakening to her creative self and how she took action to turn this into living an everyday creative life she inspires and delights. The projects shared are also clearly and practically described, doable and yet stretching for artists of various levels of experience and incorporate her own techniques as well as those contributed by other inspirational artists. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting and am now dipping in again to enjoy it at my leisure.

I think most significantly she does convince one that it's possible to take flight as a creative person, whatever the starting point of that journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book 2 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book from an Amazon recommendation a month or so ago, and I'm so pleased I did. The quality of the book is superb - beautiful photography, lovely layouts. I must admit I've not delved too much into the text yet (I've just dipped in and out) but even just looking at the projects is very inspiring. A must for the crafts bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational 15 April 2009
Format:Paperback
Taking flight: Inspiration and Techniques to Give Your Creative Spirit Wings.
I have found this book perfect for my present state of creative block. The author chats in a very easy and friendly manner and makes you feel that you really can move on in your own way. She guides you through several chapters, chatting and encouraging you along the way to try and listen to yourself and what you actually want to get out of your creative life. She appears to share what she has gone through herself, sharing her thoughts and experiences. They seem real and comfortingly familiar. I don't particularly care for the actual designs that she has used in the book.....but it has prompted me to think of elements that I might like to use that I WOULD like. The author is after all trying to encourage us to develop our own wings and not purely copy hers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trying out my wings 15 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I've recently got back into creating cards and scrapbooks and this book is one of a few I bought. What's different about this one is the writing. That in itself inspired me to try different techniques as I read the stories about the pictures or processes. Would recommend this book for anyone interested in finding their creativity again..

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a beautiful book 19 April 2010
By Sam
Format:Paperback
The title says it all, it really is a beautiful book. Technigues are included that I'm trying and having great results. The only thing I have 'had' to buy is some beeswax, could be without it but want to see how a beeswax finish looks. Otherwise had everything in my art room. The author also tells her story, which is very inspiring and encouraging to all artists and wannabe artists. It really is a beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shares 110% from start to finish, fabulous book 25 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
Unlike a lot of other books that show just the products then the final result, this book actually takes you through all the different steps in an easy way. You could almost go through it without reading it. When you start reading, it is so easy. A must for any stage, even beginners would find this book a great asset!
I cherish my copy, one of the best books ever bought!
