A terror attack on 4th July seals off Manhattan and a select few know there is more to the attack as a number of ultra secret intelligence nodes are taken out. Ex-Seal Scott Harvath happens to be close by and assembles a team of ex special forces misfits to track down the real target that his own Government are refusing to admit exists.
Let's face it, you won't buy this if you are a peace loving flower presser, so I assume you like fast moving action with somewhat traditional heroes and bad guys. Well this is a right wing pro special forces and anti soft Government but it does stretch the credibility a bit and you need to suspend a bit of logic too. The trouble is, Harvath is a tough ex-Seal but this book gives him very little real character. If you take Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, he is a powderkeg of passion and belief whereas Harvath is just a very competent soldier. The Muslem bad guys are a bit too obvious, the main one likes young boys which is a lazy plot device to make us hate him and wish him evil, the SF misfits was a great idea but not really well delivered, they could have had real personalities but generally their problems become ignored in the pace of the plot. The one exception being the female, Tracy, but in the end she became a lazy plot device too.
So a bit superficial, but it delivers what it says on the box, the shame is that it could have delivered it so much better.
