5.0 out of 5 stars Full of advice on every aspect of Model aircraft flying, 11 Jan 2002
This review is from: Take-off: All about Radio Controlled Model Aircraft (Paperback)
This book is one of the best on the subject it covers every aspect of model aircraft flying. For the beginner this book offers great advice with easy to understand terms and diagrams and also offers enough for the experienced flyer to read. "Take Off" is the kind of book you can't stop reading and you will find yourself returning to this book time and time again as a reference book for anything you attempt in the world of R/C Model aircraft flying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremley comprehensive., 20 April 2000
This review is from: Take-off: All about Radio Controlled Model Aircraft (Paperback)
This book is the most comprehensive and informative I have read of its type. It covers every aspect of Model building and flying. It is easy to follow should you for example wish to jump to the materials section, or require guildence for advanced aerobatics..Excellent...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of several comprehensive books on the subject., 27 May 2006
This review is from: Take-off: All about Radio Controlled Model Aircraft (Paperback)
This book has been reviewed by a couple of other readers who rate it very highly. I too rate it highly. Alex Weiss is a thoughtful and thorough author.

This book provides an extensive review of RC aero-modelling. It is indeed a book that I expect to refer back to periodically in the future. I would describe it as an excellent book for those starting out in RC modelling. Each subject will get you started and equip you with some knowledge - enough to know what questions to ask of experienced modellers or suppliers, to know what specialist texts to look for, and to understand what is going on when you find yourself in a friend's workshop or at the model flying club.

The graphics fall into two categories - the line drawings are clear and add to the text; the B&W photos vary between being helpful to just wasted space (some are blurs of grey on grey and fail to show any useful detail).

One detail that this book has got mixed up - unfortunately this is a mistake that I have seen in other UK-published RC modelling books - Mode 1 transmitters have the throttle on the RIGHT stick. What this book has labelled as Mode 1 is actually Mode 4. I doubt this will be a material problem - unless you set up a model based on this book in isolation and then hand your transmitter to a "Mode 1 pilot" mid-flight. . .

Overall - yes, this is a good book and I commend it to you.
