Product Description

Product Description

The pop phenomenon that is Take That was formed in Manchester in 1990. Throughout the first half of the '90s the band sold an unbelievable 60 million records, resulting in two of the best-selling albums of the decade: Everything Changes (which was nominated for the 1994 Mercury Prize) and Greatest Hits in 1996. Their rise to the top was well-documented in the media but in Take One they tell, for the first time, their version of this incredible story of superstardom. Take One gains you exclusive insight into life on tour during those early years, with over 150 never-before-seen photographs. Glimpse at the world inside their hotel rooms, go backstage during their amazing stage shows around the globe, and see from their unique perspective the ever-present, overwhelmingly loyal fans that followed them everywhere – perhaps you'll recognise yourself... To accompany these exceptional unseen images, a narrative, written by the boys runs throughout, candidly and humorously documenting the highs and lows, the frenzy and hysteria – and the often surreal moments – of the meteoric rise of the world's greatest boy band.

About the Author

Take That are Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen. All perform primarily on vocals though each have some instrumental talent/song-writing capability. After seeing major success in the early to mid 1990s as a five person boyband act, a reformed four man version of the band achieved new success in the late 2000s.

This book is basically a collection of pictures of Take That from 'the first time around', with some small blurbs about the pictures. I felt very nostalgic looking through it, and it would definitely make a good present for any die hard Take That fans.

This book is the first of a two part set, and whilst they work well alone to get the full story so far of Take That in pictures you would need both books.

I think that so long as you understand that this is a book of photos journalling their career then you will be happy with your purchase. If you are looking for a book to read, then buy Gary's Autobiography My Take instead.

boys to men!! 27 Oct 2009
Format:Hardcover
The books (this is the first of two - take one and take two) are a look at behind the scenes and personal moments from the bands first time as a boy band and second time as a man band. You really need to buy both to appreciate the books properly. I have to say I am a HUGE TT fan, and recieved my books today. I opened them with great excitement but managed to read them both within 90 minutes. To say I am disappointed is a bit strong, but it was a bit of a let down. Some of the pictures I have seen before, athough saying that the ones that I hadnt are fabulous. Howard is especially fit!! There are lovely comments from the "boys" on most of the pages to explain the pictures. There is one picture of Robbie and Mark playing around after a performance and it is beautiful. It shows the genuine love and bond between them, that even someone who did not know the history of the band could see. (pg 114 - 115). I have been left with the feeling that it is a money spinner - sorry boys as I really really wanted to love it! HOWEVER - saying that if you like Take That or you are thinking of buying it then do so as it is still worth a buy. A proper fan will still cherish it I am sure but dont expect too much. I hope that this helps with your choice to buy the books. I am off for a second read now - and waiting for amazon to send me the Circus DVD and CD in November - went to the concert so know this one is going to be awesome. By the way there are some circus photos in take two........
