Product Description

You Me At Six's revival of fun-loving, care-free spirited pop-rock is infectious and spreads with each lyric on this deluxe edition of Take Off Your Colours. Listeners fall fast for the band's teen-relevant lyrics of heartache, bad breakups, jealousy and the frustrations of love and the non-stop rockfest of single-worthy sing-alongs like "Gossip", "Save It For The Bedroom", "Take Off Your Colours" and "Finders Keepers". Take Off Your Colours proves without a doubt the band has the ability to craft some of the catchiest pop-rock anthems that this new generation of rock bands has to offer.

As a fan of pop-punk bands, my friend suggested that I listen to these guys. I borrowed her copy of the first version of Take Off Your Colours. Brilliant! and I bought this version for myself.

The first track 'The Truth is a Terrible Thing' is great - strong, with a catchy lyrics, and a true pop-punk sound behind it. The beat on this one is great. 9/10

'Gossip' plunges in with the drums, before the 'whoas'. While not a favourite of mine, it's certainly one I don't skip. It's worth singing-along too - like most songs on this album. 8/10

'Call that a Comeback', like Gossip, isn't a favourite. To me, it sounds a lot like Gossip, enough for me to skip. However, still a fun track. 7/10

'Jealous Minds Think Alike' is the first single I heard from them. I loved the guitars, the lyrics. The chorus is incrediby catchy. This is such a stand-out track for me. 10/10

'Save it for the Bedroom'. Well, for one, if you haven't seen the video, watch it now! However, the song is a true gem, one that will always be a crowd favourite. 10/10

'Take Off Your Colours' - great drumming! Great song. Maybe it's not worth being the title track, as I don't think it truly shows them fully, but it's still one of the great ones. There's something about this song that you don't want it to stop. 9/10

'You've Made Your Bed (So Sleep In it)' never sticks in my mind. Perhaps it's because of the great tracks before it. Slightly slower than the ones before. 8/10

'If You Run'. Great guitars at the beginning! That's always the first thing I notice about this track. Again, never sticks in my mind except for the long "If you ruuuuun, if you ruuuun!" but everytime I listen to it, the words come back.

That You Me At Six are a group of young gentlemen from
Surrey came as quite a surprise ! They have listened
attentively to American collegiate rock of the past 8 years
or so and learned their lessons well.

Mindless in the nicest possible way and curiously addictive.

The eighteen tracks spread over two CDs is a little on
the long side for me but will doubtlees please their fans.
A bit of judicious pruning here and there and I would have
found even greater enthusiasm.

Messrs O'Grady and Mitchell's production is entirely and
unremittingly one-dimensional but this is not necessarily
an impediment given the unabashed simplicity of the material.

It possesses energy, drive and workmanlike comittment.

Standout numbers include : 'Take Off Your Colours', which couldn't
really sound any more like Fall Out Boy if it tried (also no bad
thing given FOB's recent rapid demise). A replacement, British
or otherwise, is very welcome.

'Tigers and Sharks' starts of in a more reflective mode but it
isn't long before the power-chords break in to bruise our ribs.
Singer Josh Franceschi has a pleasing little voice blessed with
an engaging but not over-prominent wobble in its upper register.

'Nasty Habits' is a near-perfect piece of post-post-punk-pop.
Drummer Dan Flint drives one of the band's best musical ideas
along with well-placed gusto. He is an asset throughout.

'Finders Keeps' too has naive melodic charm and a walloping great
anthemic chorus to wave hands in the air to. Cracking stuff!

'Blue Eyes Don't Lie' delivers a thumpingly good conclusion to
a more than promising debut.

The material will doubtless all work well live.
A little more finesse and refinement in the production department next
time and this fine little band could well be making some bigger waves.

Recommended.

Having bought this CD for my daughter I'm glad to report that she thinks it's brilliant and I'm glad it's actually music you can listen to rather than a lot of 'noise' that is on the market just now. Maybe I'm just getting old.........
