Biography

Named after a legendary Southern prostitute who allegedly beheaded and mutilated her clients, Jacksonville's Molly Hatchet meld loud hard rock boogie with guitar jam-oriented Southern rock. Formed in 1975, the group's original lineup featured three guitarists -- Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland, and Duane Roland -- plus vocalist Danny Joe Brown, bassist Banner Thomas, and drummer Bruce ... Format: Audio CD
After 3 fantastic albums this is really disappointing, clearly struggling to keep up with the likes of Blackfoot, the pressure's of touring, the band are devoid of ideas. If it wasnt for the superb opener 'Bloody Reunion' this would be a 2 star disc.Even the album sleeve(for which their previous discs were famous) is appalling,so bad that even Manowar would have baulked at it!

The sound has been augmented with a horn section, backing singers including Katy Sagal of 8 simple rules/married with children fame but if you havent got the material then it matters not

The songs in general are tired and plodding with no real inspiration only 'Lady Luck' getting anywhere. The rest is average metal/rock,even the appearance of Baby Jean(Mothers Finest) cant save 'Respect me in The Morning'

A disappointing disc,it was no surprise that changes in the band would take place, with Farrar (vocals),thomas(bass) & Crump(drums) all gone before the next album.

For completists only.

If you haven't heard of Molly Hatchett then the best way I can describe them is rock/metal with a southern american feel.
From Bloody Reunion, hard fsat opeener through Lady Luck, slofter rock number to Dead Give Away this album never gives up.
For fans of 70/80's rock/metal aka Saxon (Best example I can come up with).
The only dodgy thing about this album is the cover.

Great Hard Southern Rock 18 Nov. 2007
By Gary - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I'm not sure what the reviewer below me (August 12, 1999) is talking about, but this is a great album. Jimmy Farrar steps in on vocals and absloutely holds his own. As a classic hard rock drummer, I can tell you that these songs stand up with Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and the other Molly Hatchet albums. If you like blues oriented hard rock, you won't be disappointed. If Jimmy Farrar still sounds like this today, I'd be more than happy to form a band with him.

BGO release - excellent 6 July 2013
By S M - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a review for the BGO release and it is excellent with regards to sound and information about the band at this time and contains lyrics.

As for the release itself, vocalist Jimmy Farr added a (personal preference) raw soulful edge compared to the laidback vocals of Danny Joe Brown.

However, many fans seemed to not give the guy a break, especially since, in his own words, he was "fat and ugly" compared to the more rock performer looks of Brown, thus may not even have given the recording an objective listen.

Material is more varied than previous releases, the addition of horns is a compliment, but doesn't try to be radio friendly or try to sound "southern rock" compared to some later releases.

By far my favorite Moly Hatchet album. Bloody Reunion is their best song ever.

Yet Another Great Molly Hatchet CD, And The Band's Heaviest Yet 10 Jan. 2006
By The Footpath Cowboy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
TAKE NO PRISONERS is yet another great Molly Hatchet CD, and features the band playing a form of Southern heavy metal on some songs, while adding horns on "Lady Luck." Also featured is a Southern-style heavy metal cover of Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally." As is usual for a Molly Hatchet album, the singing and guitar playing are top-notch. The fact that the surviving members of the band (Danny Joe Brown and Duane Roland, R.I.P.) advocate sanctions against countries which falsely convict foreigners, increased funding for law enforcement/community policing, and capital punishment/life without parole for aggravated kidnapping makes TAKE NO PRISONERS an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
