THIS WONDERFUL PABLO ALBUM FROM THE EARLY 1970'S SHOWCASES ELLA'S PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MELLOW, JAZZY GUITAR OF JOE PASS - HER PERFECT FOIL / PARTNER IN A SELECTION OF STANDARDS MANY OF WHICH SHE HAD RECORDED BEFORE. THESE VERSIONS SHOW ELLA AT HER MOST MATURELY INTIMATE. HER VOICE WAS CHANGING. NO LONGER THE LITTLE GIRL SWEETNESS OF THE 50'S AND EARLY 60'S.THIS WAS A MATURE WOMAN SINGING HER HEART OUT AND SHOWING JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER FEMALE VOCALIST EXACTLY HOW IT IS DONE. THERE ARE SUPERB VERSIONS OF 'ONCE I LOVED','GEE BABY, AIN'T I GOOD TO YOU' AND A COMFORTING 'I WANT TO TALK ABOUT YOU' TO CONCLUDE. TWO OTHER OUTSTANDING TRACKS ARE 'LUSH LIFE' AND 'YOU'RE BLASE' - SONGS THAT ONLY A MATURE ELLA COUL;D TACKLE SUCCESSFULLY. SEVERAL MORE 'CHAMBER MUSIC' ALBUMS WERE TO FOLLOW THIS ONE INCLUDING, I THINK, THREE MORE WITH PASS. THIS IS THE FIRST AND OUTSTANDINGLY THE BEST. ONLY TWO COMPLAINTS. THE ARTWORK AND NOTES ARE ALL IN MONOCHROME; ALSO, TO HEAR ELLA'S MANY VOCAL NUANCES YOU NEED TO PLAY IT AT HIGH VOLUME.

From 1973 comes this beautifully recorded intimate little session from Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald. It's an album of romantic ballads- the moods varying from bluesy to wistful and back.Ella is perhaps a little past her best here but even so she sings with all her usual charm and depth of feeling. What she has lost in exuberance and effortless range she makes up with her ability to create a sense of intimacy and meaning in her performance.Joe Pass meanwhile accompanies Ella with such subtlety and taste that it's easy to forget just how accomplished he is as a guitar player.Listen to his work on 'You're Blase' to appreciate the full extent of his talents, it's stunning but understated stuff.

All in all, a 'Take Love Easy' is great album for a late night listen.Fave tunes:'Don't Be That Way','Take Love Easy ' and the lovely 'A Foggy Day'.Recommended.

The best recordings from the dynamic duo... 3 Feb 2000
By Joseph Cossette - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Although the other recordings from this duo are also great, this title is my most favorite one. Every song stands out for their unique jazz interpretation of these classic tunes. Vocal/jazz duos are very difficult to pull off, but you'd never know it by listening to these recordings. Joe Pass's guitar work here is some of his best in a duo setting. Ella's melodic improvisations on these tunes is incredible. Definately one of the greatest jazz duos of all time.

Very Dark Blend 23 Jun 2002
By Burçak Savaşkurt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the debut of Ella and Joe Pass albums.Recorded with some deep melancholy and emotion on August 28,1973.I recommend you whole album but esp. "you go to my head" is something special and makes you feel like that it never ends."Lush Life" and Jobim's "Once I Loved" are album's highlights and probably will make you cry as the rest of the album would do.Listen to this and realize how a jazz singer becomes A legend with lotta proofs and how a jazz guitar is played that perfect by a god,Joe Pass.
Very dark very sensitive. This is the event!

This has endured many years as my favorite album. 26 Oct 1999
By Kristen Lindquist (quisten@pacbell.net) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Though I enjoy music of many different genres, this album transcends genre for me somehow. In these sessions, two astounding artists, who share an incredible chemistry, communicate the nuances of wit and tenderness with exquisitely sophisticated simplicity. It is a rare gem.
