BOY, WHAT A READ,
By A Customer
This review is from: Take It Like a Man : The Autobiography of Boy George (Paperback)
Having been a fan of george for many years, I first read this book expecting to find stories of fame, glitter, showbiz parties and general excess. All of that was there, but so much more. Who would have thought that 'The Queen Mum' of 80's pop would have lived through so much. We all know about his drug addiction, the fall from grace and love affairs, but there is so much he reveals that you would never have believed. The bloody fist-fights, his days as a punk, his manic friendships. George has been reborn, not in a religious sense, but as a man who can take his past demons and turn them into a story that will shock, entertain and more often than not make you laugh with his frank and witty observations and confesssions. Roll on the sequel.........?

This review is from: Take It Like a Man : The Autobiography of Boy George (Paperback)
I recently read his autobiography after seeing George's Broadway show Taboo. His book went into real depth on his entire life growing up and being made fun of by the kids at school and then moving to London when he was 15. Living poor and from house to house while clubbing every night, you see where he develops his style and attitude. The book allows you to see inside his relationship with Jon Moss and what was really going on as they produced those classic pop hits. Boy George doesn't spare a detail on his love life or friendships and the tricks they all played. He says exactly what's on his mind and after his drug problem and overcoming that, you still see he's scarred and hurt and so very human. He's an inspiration and this book i COULD NOT put down! A MUST-READ for any 80's or Culture Club fan!

I was unable to put this book down from the very first page. Some parts are very funny while others have you feeling so sorry for George. I think that this is the best autobiography i have read by far. A brilliant book it's just a shame that he didn't write more.
