This is my favourite Gilad Atzmon CD. Why? Its simplicity reminds me of the golden age of the classic Blue Note recordings of the 50's and 60's. With Gilad alternating sax and clarinet, the playing is creative throughout, and aided by a sparky drummer and hell-for-leather bassist, the trio format never gets boring. No world music, no Pharonic overblowing, no heavy-handed strings, just good jazz. And I never thought anyone would make me sit up and listen to My Funny Valentine as though it was new.
