Most Helpful Customer Reviews

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By russell clarke TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 19 Oct. 2006
Format: Audio CD
I must confess that the appeal of The Magic Numbers has escaped me up to now. For a group allegedly ushering forth a new age of glorious dynamic harmonic pop they sounded rather flat and tame to my ears, certainly compared to a band like say Ooberman who really do know how to deliver a multi faceted harmonic experience. But this ,their new single has been gaining plenty of air play on Radio Two (along with the terrific new single by Amy Winehouse) and has grown on me like a wart on a spinsters chin.

The backing harmonies are as velvety as Nigel Havers cravat while the songs central melody is just swoon some with just enough melancholic core to prevent it becoming too cloying. The propulsive instrumentation keeps the whole thing galloping along nicely and the lead vocal of Romeo Stodart is effortlessly beguiling.

All in all very nice indeed and if the rest of their forthcoming album is as serenely splendid as "Take A Chance" I may well have to reappraise their back catalogue. Till then i, ll makes do with this magic number.
