My daughter loves Thomas and was thrilled with this toy and I suspect that any Thomas fan would. The problem is that the tracks do not stay together very well particularly those that are suspended. My daughter constantly leans on the tracks or accidently kicks the tracks and the whole thing comes apart. Meaning I have to put it back together all the time - very frustrating. I was quite disappointed with this toy, however the rating is based on both mine and my daughter's opinion.

My 5 year old son recieved this for Christams last year and although the adverts looked impressive it disguised the fact that the track is flimsy and falls apart as soon as one of the trains as much as puts a wheel on the track.
I have to say I don't like this new flimsier track - my son who struggles with his fine motor skills loved the old style track as he was able to put it together with little difficulty - he quickly becomes frustrated with the newer style.
This set looks good but falls apart quickly - the only way you could manage this is by glueing the stuff together which of course then robs it of the whole "Take Along" ethos.
Not worth the money - invest in some wooden track instead.

Take along Thomas - Percy and the fun fair. We ordered this product form Amazon, however the company FAILED to deliver!! We had to chase the company on x-mas eve, there was no contact number only an email who we never got a reply from!! Amazon were not much help either!! We finally got hold of the delivery agents who informed us that the item had not been dispatched, so my partner rushed around calling every toy shop to get one!! Luckly there was a shop 15 miles away who had one, the next was 60+!! Amazon did get a refund - although I'm not sure i've received it or the full amount!! The toy it self is lots of fun, assembly required by an adult though & is prone to fall apart by the slightest touch.

I wish I'd have read the reviews before I bought it for my little man's 2nd birthday.
It looks fantastic in the box, and in the advert but once its set up it drops to pieces far too easily!! When the top track is leant on it collapses and you have to rebuild again, at which point the little fella loses interest!
Such a shame.

Take Along Thomas - Percy & The Fun Fair

This toy looks fantastic in the box, on the pictures and when it is set up, the only problem it drops to pieces far too easily!! It is recommended for 24 months upwards but even at the age of 24 years+ this still falls to pieces when you play with it, my son got frustrated and eventually thought it was a game to touch it have it fall over then take it to pieces so mummy could put it all back together again, the overall concept is brilliant, Leaning Curve just need to adjust the design so it doesn't fall to pieces when you play with it - such a shame! (and disappointment for the price tag)

Verified Purchase
My four year old is mad about Take Along Thomas, so I buy everything in sight. This toy has been our greatest disappointment. It looks like a lot of fun - engines go up the steep ramp and slide down the spiral at the press of a button. However, the toy is badly built, which means the steep ramp keeps falling apart literally every time it is used. So you end up having to spend your time rebuilding it (a 3-5 year old really can't do it, as the braces that hold the track up the hill are very complicated) whilst an angry and frustrated toddler cries. Avoid buying it at all costs. There is a new Great Discovery set with a spiralling mine which is much more fun.

Build quality of this toy is mixed, the helter skelter part is excellant, interlocking track held secure on a frame and most importantly is easy for the adult to build! The rest of track is however the poor quality new style track that has enough trouble staying together on the flat never mind when its build as a poorly supported slope. The solution to the track breaking every minute is very simple, a tube of epoxy resin. (Hint - glue the top right hand corner to the two pieces of track attached to it for almost trouble free play). While it does make dismantling the track a bit more difficult it does mean you can relax and let your children enjoy playing with the toy without it breaking everytime they run a train across it.

After intervention with epoxy resin my children 3 and 4 year old boys loved this toy, before they gave up on it after about 30 minutes as they got frustrated with it falling to bits.

Educationally I suppose it teaches a little bit about gravity and potential energy conversion into kinetic energy but if you want to try and explain that to a three year old then you are welcome to the blank stares. Will also teach them about magnet strength as well as Thomas can only pull two coaches/trucks up the hill before the weight overcomes the magnet strength.

My son loves Thomas and when we saw this we thought he would love it which he did initially. However once it was built the frequency of it falling apart made him totally lose interest in it and we feel for the price it has been a big waste of money. He is three years old and quite careful with his toys but the raised parts of the track just fall apart so easily he finds it extremely frustrating. Very Disappointed
