Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Tokobot, Tecmo's first game for the PSP, is whimsical and wonderfully quirky. The storyline begins thousands of years ago, in the land of Moritari, where a prehistoric race created extraordinary technology that revolutionized life. Now, in modern times, this lost technology is being excavated from the ruins of the ancients by private labratories. However, the rediscovery of mini mechanised helpers, called Tokobots, has sparked interest from treasure hunters who plan to use the robots' powers to take over the world. It's up to our hero, Bolt, to foil their evil plan.

Players begin with just six Tokobots but, as the difficulty ramps up, the player will have to seek out extra robots in order to deal with the increasingly complex problems. Tokobots are able to generate 'joint actions' a fusing together with Bolt to create ladders, swings and gliders and can unify in Karakuri Combinations. Call one of these into action and watch your Tokobots merge and become a larger, much more powerful or more useful robot - such as the sword wielding samurai or block lifting crane.

The game also features a Time Attack mode once the player has completed the Story mode, as well as a selection of highly engaging mini games. The combined effect is a unique, fun and compelling gaming experience that can be played anywhere and at any time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Puzzle Game, 1 Jan 2007

I wasn't sure that the PSP was worth the money as many games I play these days feel the same. Thankfully this game has enough to make it play differently and its very refreshing. The controls are easy to learn, pick up and use and the puzzles although sometimes annoyingly cryptic are very well thought out and playable.

If you like puzzle and platform games you'll probably love this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars A jolly romp..., 22 Jan 2007

Robots, lots of them. You control a little group of bots which you can order into various formations to assist you. Line them up and throw them like a whip to attack enemies or form a bridge, stand either side of you and swing them to attack enemies or circle them around you slam down onto foes/objects; plus there are more moves to unlock

The playing of this game is, for the most part, fluid. That is to say that I have wandered around the game and not been upset with camera angles, buggy/unresponsive controls or impossible to beat creatures. Everything seems to run at a good pace.

This is a jolly game that should provide platform enthusiasts especially. At this price, I'd advise anyone with a PSP to buy - there aren't many class titles out there but this is worth it!h

3.0 out of 5 stars TOP IDEA - FRUSTRATING TO PLAY!!, 20 Jun 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Don't you just hate it when there's a good promising game, with great ideas, good graphics, plenty to be getting on with, but it is sorely let down by frustratingly awkward controls & gameplay?!! Not that the puzzles are too hard, because you can always look it up on some web-site, but that, even armed with a good walthrough, some of the enemies are frustratingly difficult - even very early on!!! You just aren't given the chance to learn, as a couple of whacks and you're right back to square 1 !!!! Then its get up & go through the whole thing again (well, to be fair, only from the last save point - but that can seem a long way back when you have to re-do it a dozen or so times!!!). Perhaps the other reviewers are hardened gamers, or else they have more patience than I do. But, camera angles can be really frustrating also (just at the critical moments it seems) - you need to link up with a load of cute robots to perform certain moves (spinning, throwing etc.), but then you can't change the camera angle, even though the enemies are moving around you - leaving you at the mercy of guesswork or attacks from the rear! It is easy to turn round, but with certain enemies you just don't have the time, and can't jump high enough to move out the way. You also need to swap between formations with the triangle button, but it only scrolls one way, and you can bet the next one isn't the one you need, like yesterday!) I really wanted to give this more, as it is an oiginal game full of potential, with a great look and feel, and some superb puzzles, but I just felt let down by the controls, camera angles, and the difficulty (frustrating to the maximum when it becomes so tediously repetetive). If only it had different difficulty settings for the AI, one could perhaps enjoy the puzzles, graphics, and ideas generally a lot more. Having said all this, I would recommend buying / renting this, as it could be very rewarding; everyone is different - just always watch out for the negative points to counter the hype, so you are prepared for the worst, and pleasantly surprised when the opposite occurs :)
