In a nutshell:

The lowdown:
You might come for the budget price but you’ll stay for the gameplay in what must be the most engrossing new sports game in years. Although the realism is probably going to be beside the point for most people this looks and plays exactly like the real thing. That means the controls basically work like a normal tennis sim, with four basic shot types on the face buttons and some easy to apply aftertouch available on the left stick. You can mix and match shots by holding down multiple buttons and there’s a handy warning rumble when you starting getting your returns too near the edge of the table. Although the presentation is a little dry, especially for a Rockstar game, sports games don’t get much more fun than this.
Most exciting moment:
Although it’s a shame there’s no doubles matches the game is still at its best online in multiplayer mode. If you don’t have Xbox Live though you’ll find the computer players are very realistic, with their own quirks and specialities that make them seem far more like real people.
Since you ask:
The game features seven extra playable characters to unlock by beating the single player tournaments. The nationalities of these players are Brazilian, Irish, German, South Korean, Japanese, English and Egyptian.
The bottom line:
It may sound an odd idea but this could be the most addictive game yet for the 360.

Had this for a week now. When you fire it up, you first run through a tutorial which shows you all the moves available - this is very useful, and the basics are very easy to learn and pick up. The game is great fun to play overall - lots of high speed action, tension when the rallies get going, and some great visuals.
It can get a little frustrating - I find the movement of the player around the table can be inaccurate, and sometimes your player can wander off and give your opposition an easy point. This might just be me though! Another reason this didn't get 5* is due to the lack of gaming options available - there is only exhibition mode and tournament mode availabe against the computer opponent. In the tournament mode there are four challenges to complete, which admittedly are very challenging, but there should've been more to do. XBox Live is of course good fun to play, and whilst every so often you notice a little lag in the movement of your opponent, it is a great challenge and a perfect title for online play. Also playing against friends is amusing - as it doesn't take long to pick up, I've found that I'm often struggling to pick up points against a mate whose only been playing it for 20 minutes. Overall a great highspeed entertaining game which could've been a little bigger.

For the price, this is a great game. It could be sold for much more. With Xbox games generally being around three times the price this one really is a must.
The graphics are stunning and the game play seems natural and it is easy to pick up. I didn't think a game simulating table tennis would excite me as much as this does, it drives me crazy when I don't win. Highly addictive and bags of fun. Having said that it does lack options and variations when playing on your own. Two players - excellent, one - a tad repetitive.

Be warned this game takes about 20 minutes to pick up and thats it! You will be addicted! Me and my mate played it six hours solid on the first day! When wife got home she took a lot of convincing that we had actually left the room since she left on a shopping trip!(We did for more beer and crisps!)On a fully dolby digital system (i have 7.1) it sounds great, the graphics are excellent and the gameplay superb. i have not played it online yet.......
Buy it it is a steal. Reason for being so cheap so soon...typical 360 player wants to be running around a purple coloured "off world" shooting dragons with some kind of "mega blaster" weapon! "Ping Pong" just aint cool enough!!! Their loss!!!!!
