Amazon.co.uk Review
When someone asks you to go to the Circus, the last thing you would expect is to see a clown with eight legs, or a creature with a unicycle for feet. Yet with KISS Psycho Circus--The Nightmare Child, this is exactly what you'll get.

Take 2 Interactive and the Gathering of Developers (GOD) have taken the popular comic book series by Todd McFarlane, the creator of such masterpieces as "The Spawn", and created a glorious dark and imaginative masterpiece.

The Nightmare King has returned to pervert the fabric of our existence. In the rather crazy and strange world that is the Psycho Circus, the only thing between him and the perversion of justice is of course the four band members of KISS; Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons.

In the game, each band member, or Elder as the story likes to suggest, is in control of a certain element. Paul Stanley is the Star Bearer and responsible for the water element, Peter Criss is known as Beast King and his element is earth. Whilst Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons go by the names of Celestial and Demon and are in charge of Air and Fire respectively.

Once you have completed the four elements, you will enter a fifth element. No, not a sexy Milla Jolivich, but the hideous conception of the unborn Nightmare Child.

The game takes a number of good elements from other titles such as the cinematic sequences from Half Life and the interactivity of the surrounding from Duke Nukem, is a well-balanced single player and multiplayer package. Yet unlike other games, not all the characters that you meet are buffoons, with the AI (Artificial Intelligence) creating a hierarchal system of behaviour. Monsters such as the Headless will charge in large hordes, whilst characters further up the food chain will take a more controlled approach.

Based on the first person genre, KISS Psycho Circus offers a whole new plethora of experiences to the genre while not forgetting its heritage. This game has virtually everything, graphics that are stunning, gameplay that is challenging and a storyline that is inventive. --Stuart Miles

Product Description
KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child is an intense first-person shooter based on the rich world created by Todd McFarlane in his bestselling KISS Psycho Circus comic books. The world of the Psycho Circus comes alive with vivid, combat-heavy environments, a wall of audio, and more eye candy than a KISS concert.

The game plunges four hastily recruited heroes into a demonic world of mystery and horror, where they must battle the hideous freaks of nature spawned by the dreams of The Nightmare Child. The player begins as a mere mortal and progressively acquires the powers of The Elder, the supernatural alter egos of KISS. The Elder, embodied through Demon, Starbearer, Beast King, and Celestial, must together prevent the unraveling of the cosmos.

The nightmare minions are largely split into three groups: horde creatures, circus mutants, and bosses. The hordes have their strength in numbers and come at you by the truckload; the circus thugs are stronger, smarter, and possess special abilities that vary depending on their profession. At the heart of each realm is a nightmarish boss who puts your powers to the ultimate test.

5.0 out of 5 stars kiss = classic, 16 Feb 2001
By A Customer
i, like many others, eagerly anticipated the release of this game and when it was released i was not dissapointed. based on the hit 1980's band "KISS" it has a real freaky story line and some grousom blood thirsty demons. the plot is twisted and the graphics are so brilliantly rendored you can feel the horror!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thankfully Different, 1 Aug 2000
Apart from being very slick graphically the gameplay is fortunately different from other standard 3D blasting fair. The inclusion of the spawners and a good level design mean there are very few moments of bordem or frustration. If you like Kiss, the music is very good and even if you don't it really builds the atmosphere. This combined with the excellent effects and different appearence of each realm makes the game very enjoyable. The fact that you are building up parts of the costumes of Kiss really makes little difference because the whole Ancient Avatars theme gells very well with the 3D genre. Apparently this is based on the Todd McFarlane comic books which were based on the band but seeing as I've never read them I can't comment on this. However I do recommend the game very strongly it's well worth it....

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game, but has its bad points!, 31 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This is not your average shoot 'em up and go type game! It combines the graphic quality of Unreal Tornement ( Which had REALLY godd graphics ), the addictiveness of Messiah, and a very good range of difficulty levels. The story line can be a little tricky to understand, but it makes up for it in playabillity.

This game also allows you to use 4 completely different characters, ( making the game last longer ) who each have their own range of weapons. It has nice touches to keep you happy with it all the way through ( like being able to opporate a juke box and have rock 'n' roll playing whilst you play ).

KISS Psycho Circus can be quite gory in some places, so younger children may be advised not to play, by this I mean that you can hack little spidery creatures to bits with bear claws and swords. Though gory, the missions are easy to understand, and the clue box which is on screen tells you about secret doors and objects.

This is definately an excellent game and well worth buying, but it does have its bad points. I have found that the game gets stuck a lot, or freezes the computer totally. It can also take 2 instead of 1 times to load up a saved game. The only real place that the game suffers is on its multyplayer via the net. Instead of having a nice browser to tall you where the multiplayer games are being held, you have to log onto the KISS Psycho Circus site ( www.KISSPsychoCircus.com , find out the date, time, and IP address of the person hosting it. You then have to type this in on you r multyplayer screen ( a browser would be so much easier ). Mant people have trouble getting the multyplayer games to run anyway. This of course is not much of a problem if you don't like multyplayer modes!

KISS Psycho Circus - The Nightmare Child, is a very good single player game, with very advanced gameplay and graphics. It only suffers on multyplayer modes, but if you understand IP addresses then you are fine.

WELL WORTH BUYING...I LOVE IT!
