5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing 16 Feb 2006
After playing Dead or Alive 4 and getting thoroughly frustrated and wanting to throw my console through the window, this was a breath of fresh air. Its not easy in a "you'll do every challenge first time" kinda way, but its not the sort of game where you'll spend hours on the same challenge being unfairly denied glory. If you fail a challenge it'll ask you if you want to do it again, press the X button and it'll reset your position instantly and you can try again. No frustrating waits just to restart. Many challenges involve performing jumps and getting the required number of points, or hurtling down the hill on a sled and breaking as many bones as you can. Achievements can be earned by simply driving the snowmobile around for the required distance or getting injured a lot!
The graphics are crisp in high-definition, if not groundbreaking and pushing the Xbox 360's capabilities. Characters are nicely drawn in a "Saturday morning cartoon" kinda way - not anatomically accurate, but functional, the slopes are nicely rendered and the cut scenes are crude yet fun.
The voices are like something lifted from Waynes world and Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure, which personally I like. It adds to the laid-back feel of this game. The music isn't too bad either.
Gameplay wise, it has a free-roaming style to it. You can do whatever you want, just explore the range of slopes you've unlocked at your own pace. Choose whether to snowboard, sled or use the snow mobile and head right back up to the top of the hill. As you travel down the hill, you'll stumble upon challenges. Simply press the X button to find out what they are and start them to begin building up your stock of medals and cash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amped 3 Review 11 Mar 2006
By JoeH
One of the first games i got for my 360, i couldn't wait to shove Amped 3 in the machine and get gaming. I was impressed with the feature that lets you create the unique look of your character (male or female) by changing tops, trousers, boards, bindings, hair, the list goes on. Then i excitedly chose a drop point on the first maountain, and sped down the mountain, amazed by the way the snow powders behind you and the graphics in HD in general are just brilliant. The music is good, with 300 tracks to choose from, but i nevertheless put on my own music. There are endless story missions, of varying difficulty, and are great fun until they.. well....end. Then there are the REALLY neverending side and bonus missions, which go on forever, letting you unlock new gear and tricks. These side missions are great fun and as they are in such an abundance, they give the game a long and lasting life. I enjoyed the fact that more points could be acheived by executing tricks slowly and with style, unlike the ridiculously disorientating prewinds that occur in the SSX franchise. Another final point that needs to be noted, is the sheer size of the game in general. It features 7 mountains, the first three of which have 3-4 huge areas. then there are the last 4, which are smaller but just as enjoyable. Each mountain focuses on different aspects, like the penultimate mountain, which focuses on jumps, and the peaks of the first three mountains, which are ideal for "carving".
Thanks for reading, Joe.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real grower!! 5 Mar 2006
BR>Firstly, I found the game initially a bit of a disappointment. The graphics are great, the best ever in a snowboarding game but, unlike ssx, there are no races- just various challenges as you meander down the mountains. The thing is though, once you get your head round the structure of the game it gets a lot better. You complete a number of challenges and the story progresses and you face more, tougher, challenges and so on.
I finally completed the story mode after a couple of weeks, but be warned that some of the final challenges are very frustrating. They are possible though, so keep trying!
Even then though, there is still loads to do as you go back and do the challenges that you missed previously or get that elusive gold medal-it really is a massive game!
To sum up then, once you get into this game it does grab you and wont let go til you have completed all the challenges and stoked (or impressed) all the others on the mountain. Just give it a chance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawks on snow 18 Jan 2006
This game wants so much to be liked - some people have described it as easy, but more accurate would be to describe it as forgiving - miss a stunt challenge? no problem, hit a button and it'll reset you at the top of the jump lined up perfectly to try again. Can't quite beat a challenge? try a couple of times to scrape a bronze medal, ignore it and move on to one of literally hundreds of other challenges. Missed a challenge start point boarding down from one of the lifts? Just hop on a snowmobile and drive back uphill. By the time you get to the third and fourth acts, the difficulty has ratcheted up enough to provide a reasonable challenge (although to be fair, through a lot of act one you will be scratching your head as to how anyone could fail a challenge)
The quality of the in-game graphics is best demonstrated by the fact that I frequently stop the snowboard halfway down the mountain just to look around and soak up the views. Some of the terrain textures aren't quite as sharp as other launch games, but the view distance is vast (from the top lift you can see details all the way down a mountain that might take five or ten minutes to ride down) and the mountains are crowded with other snowboarders and skiers, who jump out of the way, swerve around you when you stop, sit around applauding or throwing snowballs. It all adds to an incredible feeling of immersion, and this game comes much closer to recreating the feeling of bombing around a real mountain than any of the SSX or previous Amped games.
Opinions are likely to be divided on the cut-scene presentations - I can see how they could wind up some people, but that said, I annoy fairly easily and I really liked them.
