Over an hour of reflection, contemplation, peace and serenity. This is a musical tribute to the ecumenical community in the village of Taizé, founded by Brother Roger Schutz. The community has been visited by, amongst others, Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela and Vaclaw Havel. Music and song are the keys to understanding Taizé. A classically trained musician, Brother Roger introduced the form of meditative chant that came to characterise Taizé and which has been taken up by churches worldwide. The Taizé songbook states: "Song is one of the most essential elements of worship. Short chants, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind."
