Space Invaders: Invasion Day is an out-and-out, old-school, shoot 'em-up that sees our extraterrestrial enemies back doing what they do best. This time, however, the action takes place on Earth in locations spread across a major city. Players will have fifty stages to complete and ten bosses to battle against if they are to repel the Invaders.
The game features two distinct game modes. The single-player, story-mode follows the fortunes of three characters. Each individual has different attributes, weapons and story paths. Rendered cut scenes punctuate the action and help the story to develop.
The survival mode can be played by either one or two players. The objective is to collect points by destroying the marauding Invaders and blasting objects while dodging the hail of laser-death that the aliens rain down on you. In the survival-mode the game will continue relentlessly until your character's hit point meter reaches zero.

Take the old space invaders concept, make it 3D, add in some great animations and detailed monsters in addition to the usual 'ships' and set it at ground level in a city with a storyline. Sounds good, and looks good at first. The graphics are pretty good with some great cutscenes, although the sound is basic to say the least.
Problems set in after you've played through once - basically all there is left to do is do it again - but with a different character (3 to choose from). It's pretty impossible to make it through without using continues, and just like the original, it's a quick blast fix but offers no more depth than that. Great in 1979 but doesn't cut the mustard with todays gaming expectations, even in a jazzed up version.

This is so simple to play, anyone can get into it but the fierce challenge will keep you coming back time and time again just to try and beat your last high score, great graphics and a story that adds some depth to the game.
There are 2 modes of play, story and survivor, survivor supports 2 players which i suppose is ok...but it makes things alittle on the easy side. the only real bad point about the game is the "school of ham" voice acting ugh "serves you right!"? clever one liners like that'll have you pulling your hair out, still, its a great game for retro geeks like me!

Space Invaders isn't so bad but the concept at its purest has aged quite badly and that's the problem here. Put into a story context its nice to have characters running around shooting aliens but some of the levels are a bit unfair and it seems the game works on infinite lives which leaves little challenge. The premise is fun and mildly diverting but this game is not life changing or particularly engrossing but if you are looking for a quick 10 minute shoot around game that you can pick up, play and put down again, this isn't the worst example.
