This is a home study resource designed to enable people of all ages, with or without experience, to enjoy the ancient Chinese discipline of Tai Chi Chuan. One of the most relaxing Tai Chi forms ever developed, this famous 37 posture sequence, developed by Professor Cheng Man Ching, is easy to learn and is practiced worldwide. Filmed in an inspirational lakeside setting, the complete form is shown from the front and from behind to make it easier to copy the movements. There is also the option to watch with a voice and subtitles naming the movements. In a separate section, a series of detailed tutorials clearly explain the underlying principles of Tai Chi and take you step by step through the sequence, with diagrams and foot maps to illustrate some of the moves. Some common variations of the form are also demonstrated and explained. This DVD is suitable for complete beginners or as a revision guide for anyone with previous experience of Tai Chi. It also contains rare footage of the form at a faster speed and with fa jing (explosive force) expressed in the movements in order to show how such a gentle, meditative form of exercise can also develop internal power.

This DVD is amazing,it fulfills the promise of instruction on how to do the Cheng Man Ching form perfectly with easy to follow step by step instructions. It takes you through the form looking from the front and back view so that you can really see how each move is made. I think it would be good to either use it on it's own or as extra help if you were taking a class.

This is a very good DVD from which to learn the Cheng Man Ching form both from a beginners perspective but also as a refresher for those who may have had some previous experience. I like the different segments which look at the form at all angles with clear dialogue. Highly recommended to anyone new to tai chi but also for those who are looking for a different take and what they may already know.

I am currently in my 3rd year of learning the Yang Short Form. I find this DVD an invaluable resource which I can use in my practice at home- it's informative and easy to follow. Excellent!

For those looking to learn the Cheng Man Ching form, I would suggest look elsewhere. This is not suitable for beginers as it lacks few safety explainations particulalry explaination of the kneee joints and how to protect them. The form is taught in three parts with the majority of the form on the final training section. However, this is rushed, with no footwork diagrams or clear explaination as demonstarted on the shorter second section. In short, find a local teacher who will guide you safely through the form. As DvDs go this is not recommended.

Excellent instruction for the first part. The second part not so detailed, a bit rushed but otherwise a good all round DVD for learning the form.
