Product Description

A box set of four feature-length instalments of this popular drama series. In 'For Their Sins' there has been a drugs-related murder and a mother from a local housing scheme is the prime suspect; her daughter died of a drugs overdose. However, Jardine (James MacPherson) has his eye on a notorious criminal who he failed to put behind bars. In 'A Fistful of Chips' the team are investigating a murder which has links to a high-tech factory. Meanwhile, one of D.I. Ross' (John Michie) associates from the criminal world is also murdered and, despite Jardine's orders not to, Ross decides to investigate. In 'Fearful Lightning' the team are in a race against time when a seemingly accidental death by lightning turns into a string of similar deaths. Their prime suspect is a spiritualist, Martin Strange, who the victims had close association with. Whilst in 'Ghost Rider' a string of deaths lead the team in various directions, after the initial murder enquiry began when the body of a police officer was discovered in a burnt-out car. However, their chief suspect changes overnight when a seemingly unrelated death leads them to the real murderer.

Excellent episodes, the cast having suffered another loss after the death of Iain Anders, who played Supt.Jack McVitie since the early episodes. A new character emerges, DI Robbie Ross played by John Michie, joins Blythe Duff, James Macpherson, Robert Robertson and Colin McCredie for the first time in theses episodes. Also a trip down memory lane for old loyal Taggart fans in one episode called `Fearful Lightning`, Jardine now promoted to DCI, tries to solve an interesting crime, and a psychic informs Jardine that Jim Taggart keeps sending messages to him, to help Jardine solve the investigation. This episode includes several scenes of Mark McManus from the 1980`s. All in all Volumes 34 to 37 are excellent episodes, and well worth purchasing.

There is a murderer on the loose in the streets of Glasgow. A major Police investigation is launched to find the killer. But as the case goes on, one by one more bodies of young women are found brutally strangled in the city. The case is headed by the tough, mean and highly experienced Detective, Chief Inspector Jim Taggart. A local cop who has risen through the ranks to his position. Much to his annoyance he has a new side kick, Detective Sergeant Peter Livingstone, who is one of the new breed of graduate Policemen to the force. Even with there differences they work together to track down the killer before he attacks again. Taggart getting grief from his boss Superintendent Murray fires him up for the investigation even more. Excellent episode and the first Taggart episode ever broadcast. Worth buying.

Firstly, the star rating is for the compilation - not the content, which was excellent, as ever. My grievance lies with the company or companies manufacturing and releasing them. Collecting the full set has never been easy, and the battle continues. Instead of releasing say, the first 6 episodes, or the entire first season or the first year like normal series, we have been drip fed 2 episodes at a time, or been forced to buy "editions" or "collections". Unfortunately, all options have at some point included repeats; in fact there is one episode that I have 4 copies of. They were always very careful to include one episode which does not appear anywhere else, so that if you wanted continuity, you were forced to buy it. Very poor show.

Another 5 excellent episodes of this long-running detective series - the longest running on television I think. Like other viewers and reviewers, I would like to have the original Mark McManus 90 min format but they still manage to pack an interesting and well-acted story into the 45 min or so. Recommended to all detective story fans.

At long last Taggart is out on DVD.Four great fantastic Episodes.DI Mike Jardine,DS Jackie Read,DC Stuart Fraser,Supt Jack Mcvitie and Dr Stephen Andrews have some of the worst murders to solve that have ever been seen in Glasgow. All of the Episodes here are fantastic, well worth the money.Volume 32 is an extremely brutal Episode. The only disappointing thing is that DCI Jim Taggart is not in these Episodes as sadly Mark McManus had died by the time these Episodes were filmed. But in the next Taggart Box Set in an Episode called Fearful Lightning Jim Taggart is seen with several flashback scenes of him.The enquiry is just to difficult to handle for DI Jardine and when he talks to a psychic she gives Jardine messages from Jim Tagagrt himself!!

I enjoyed the stories on the DVD however I feel that there could have been more episodes on these disks instead of just 5. Always enjoy Taggart especially with Burke.

I bought this for my dad at Christmas and he loves it, though not my cup of tea as I prefer, Lewis, Midsomer Murders.
