Three episodes from the popular Scottish drama series. In 'An Eye For an Eye' a doctor at a woman's health centre is murdered, and anti-abortionists get the blame. But when Burke (Alex Norton) uncovers a trail of drugs and blackmail, the focus of suspicion shifts. In 'Penthouse and Pavement' the death of a prominent novelist leads Burke and his team through Glasgow's seedy underworld as they strive to solve the case. Finally in 'Atonement', after giving evidence that put away a hardened criminal, Jimmy McCree is found dead. Coincidentally, the man he put away has just been released, however, he has a solid alibi. Once again Burke and his team have their work cut out to solve the case.

Having been a fan of Taggart for a while now, I can honestly say - this collection of recent episodes is a real gem. Set in Glasgow, Taggart is a police drama unlike most on television. Instead of concentrating on one individual detective, the show instead opts to give each member of the detective team pretty much equal screentime, allowing the viewer to really get to know the characters and their relationships. In saying this, Alex Norton has the unenviable job of filling the shoes of James MacPherson, who used to play DCI Michael Jardine and he does so excellently with the character of DCI Matt Burke. While some people may claim they don't enjoy the series as much now, I have to say that Norton's character makes the show even better - adding the sarcastic wit and toughness of the stereotypical Glasgow man - his performances really raise this show above the other crime programmes on television.
This particular collection of 'new Taggart' episodes is the best yet. In fact I'd go as far to say that they have managed to pick the 3 best individual episodes and put them together (this does not mean the other boxsets are not worth buying!)
Whether you are a long-standing fan of the series, or you have never seen Taggart before - this collection is a must have item. With clever plots, but more importantly, excellent characters - Taggart is one of the best programmes on British television. If you only plan on buying one collection of episodes - make it this one! Although I then guarantee you will be back for the others!
