Product Description

Product Description

The martial art of Taekwon-Do was initially developed by the Korean military in the 1950s and spread internationally with the formation of the International Taekwon-Do Federation [ITF] in 1966. Taekwon-Do has continued to develop and it is now one of the most popular martial arts, with some eight million students worldwide and perhaps best known for its spectacular kicking and power demonstrations. In this highly practical and informative book, Master Hogan draws on his vast experience to give unique insights into the performance and application of the first nine patterns (tul) that Taekwon-Do students must master to obtain the rank of 1st degree black belt.

About the Author

Master Jim Hogan dominated the UK tournament scene in the 1980s, winning numerous national titles in all disciplines [sparring, patterns and destruction]. In 1984 he won a European title in sparring and then in 1990 won the prestigious Masters Cup in Stockholm. A highly sought-after teacher and coach since the early 1980s, Master Hogan has run numerous schools in the UK where he has coached many UK, European and World Champions. Master Hogan holds the rank of 7th degree black belt and runs Hogan's Institute of Taekwon-Do with clubs in London and Surrey where he continues to train and teach. Resident: Surrey

First Sentence
Unlike many martial arts, the origins of Taekwon-Do are well documented since it was created relatively recently by General Choi Hong Hi in 1955 and spread around the world with the formation of the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) in 1966. Read the first page

As someone still relatively new to the martial Arts and Taekwon-do. I had previously purchased a few Taekwon-do Patterns books to act as aids to learning my patterns and their application. As I find this area quite fulfilling. But I feel that the books that I had previously brought had fallen far short in respects to illustrating to me what constituted good form and posture in executing my patterns. This book is easy to follow and very user friendly for beginners. Giving you a step by step guides with pictures of good alignment of the body when executing your blocks and attacks, furthermore the photograph's are very realistic, I also find that this book makes a good reference book too. I have enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it to my fellow students at class. I cannot wait to see if the author will publish a Black Belt Patterns book, as I should be hopefully grading in the near distance future for my black belt.

At last a book for Tae Kwon-Do that makes sense!

I've got alot of Tae Kwon-Do books in my collection, and I would say that this is one of the first that has actually been written and edited correctly. I'm not talking about whether a move should be high, middle or low section - but whether the book is readable and makes sense as you read it - and this does.

The images and the way the book is laid out is ordered correctly, with comments and additional information beneath the move shown in the book - not at some later point that just seems to be tagged on at the end of a chapter.

Plus besides whether the book itself makes sense will it help you in your TKD training - and the answer is YES - and that is both for students and instructors!

Great Book, Great Read

This is what you need to get through your patterns and learn their application as well. I would strongly recommend getting one of these for reference purposes.
