I always rave about Tae Bo as I'm a huge fan. Just when I thought it couldn't get tougher than Tae Bo Bootcamp (with resistance from elastic 'Billy Bands') Billy brings out a whole new series using a 3 pound resistance bar - the Amplifier (it basically amplifies your routine by adding resistance so all the usual moves are made tougher) I bought this a few weeks ago - the workout is tough and this particular DVD (40 minutes long) is a great one to start out with if you've purchased the Amplifier bar already as it's not too intense but still tough enough. If you've done a lot of Tae Bo before, I wouldn't recommend this DVD if you don't plan to get the Amplifier bar as there aren't really any new moves. If you're new to Tae Bo though, this will be good with or without the Amplifier!

A few criticisms and warnings: doing this workout, it was the first time during the many many years of doing Tae Bo that I really felt like Tae Bo could be dangerous. The Amplifier resistance bar has the potential to do all kinds of injury to fingers, thumbs, wrists, neck and back (and I don't know what else!) if used incorrectly - never before has it been more important to do all the moves correctly. I recommend doing the whole workout in front of the mirror - atleast until you've matched all the moves to the way Billy does them.

That warning aside the other thing about this DVD specifically is that after 37 minutes, just when you are preparing yourself to do a power round (or 'getting amped' as Billy puts it), the music changes all of a sudden and Billy hesitates: he utters 'Oh sorry, we're out of time - next time!'. He then proceeds into a quick 3 minute cool down and wraps up the workout with a quick speech. I have never seen anything like this - how can you just run out of time on a DVD?? I found this unbelievable and incredibly unprofessional. What a perfect example of the Tae Bo money-making machine in action! Hmm.

Anyway, overall I would give this 3.5/5 - it is an average workout enhanced with the Amplifier resistance bar if used properly. You definately feel it in the arms and shoulders during the workout. No floor workout in this one but gives an effective 40 minute cardio!

Too much arms, not enough cardio 20 Oct 2011
By Caitlin - Published on Amazon.com
Although this DVD is called 'Jump Start CARDIO,' there is barely any cardio involved in the workout. Almost all of the short, 40 minute (in reality it's more like 30 minutes) workout focused on arms. It is not a bad workout; it just doesn't focus on what it claims to. There is also too much down-time where everyone is just walking in place, and the Amplifier Bar just makes the moves more complicated and difficult to do. I prefer doing the majority of the moves with one- or two-pound free weights. The bar also is poorly manufactured and frequently (and I mean VERY frequently) comes unlocked. Overall, it was a good--but short-- workout that got me sweating. I was just a little put off by the fact that it focused more arms than cardio.
