If you've ever had the delightful experience of walking along the edge of a pond or lake on a late spring morning, or if you've ever sat quietly beside a slow-moving stream and looked down into the water long enough, you've probably seen a tadpole or two swimming along just beneath the water's surface. Read the first page

Aimed quite firmly at the American market, this never the less has some useful information for anyone rearing taddies. There are many illustrations but the majority are of tadpoles and frogs with very few on tanks, habitat, maintenance, plants, foods etc. although water quality and habitat are constantly (and quite rightly) referred to. The passage on metamorphasis is innacurate in my experience. A useful book - although lacking in dedicated photos; relying too much on library images.

Just needed a basic overview of the life cycle from tadpole to frog as I had been given some frogspawn. Too many over species from other countries which wasn't of any real interest to me.

I bought this book because we have some tadpole is a fish tank caught from our local pond, for my children to observe, and wished to learn how to care for them

However this book is for the AMERICAN hobbiest where (apparently) people keep Bullfrogs as pets. These are not the same as our UK frog.
The chapters of this book are,
1. What's a tadpole - which the first half of is good information about tadpoles in general, then it goes on the describe four species of american frog
2.The tadpole tank - this is how to set up a full aquarium, including filters, water chemistry, lighting etc.
3. Feeding tadpoles - I'll tell you now, it says feed them tropical flakes, bloodworm, tubifex worms and 'zucchini' all in large lumps.
4. Metamorphosis - which includes you must give them dry land too, or they could drown
5. Diseases and disorders - humm
6 Housing - how to keep your adult frog (mine will be in the garden eating the slugs I hope!)

So I would highly recommend this book if you are intending to raise an American bullfrog as a hobby, for anyone just wanting info on our UK tadpoles and frogs - look elsewhere - if I find anything I'll let you know!

Basic care of few species - good beginner's book - a little lacking for me in more detail and content

While this has some good information, it's also nearly a decade old and it shows in many ways. Some of the things recommended here in terms of aquarium care are things you'll find spoken strongly against in current aquarium forums. The technology and knowledge about how to care for small aquatic creatures is always changing. So I'd use up-to-date websites over the dated information presented here. Maybe at some point they'll do an update.
