300 tactical puzzles from real endgames!

After the opening and the middlegame, Gods have placed the endgame!

This book touches upon an important but rarely covered topic of "tactics in the endgame". Books on this subject are either rare or still not out there!

You are not alone if you have you lost games from winning positions because you did not spot your opponent's tactical shot. Or maybe you missed a tactic of your own? Inspite of your material advantage, you could not bring home the full point in the end? Practice is your only friend and coach.

This book aims to give you ample practice from tactical endgame positions to really convert that loss into a draw or a draw into a win! Watch out for the Knight forks. Check how other players sacrifice their valuable pieces to ensure the pawn promotes. Or the simplification tactics to win a won endgame!

Unlike other books which offer high number of generic puzzles, this book has carefully chosen and manually selected high quality puzzles from games played in year 2011-2013.

Chess Masters stuff as many positions and patterns in their head as possible and this book gives you an opportunity to do that!

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • 300 puzzles from real games of 2011-13! These puzzles are not made up. The themes/patterns can occur in your games too!

    • The puzzles are broken into 4 levels and are suited for players of all strength

    • Alternative lines are annotated so you are not left wondering why a certain move was not plausible

    • The solution is placed immediately after the puzzle and also has a accompanying diagram so you can easily visualize the variation on the board without moving back and forth

    • Each solution is marked with an arrow so you can easily scan the first move without having to read the complete notation. This can also be a good way to get a hint for the first move without revealing the complete solution

No matter your skill level, this book is the right practice companion for you!

    May Caissa be with you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Endgame Puzzles 24 Aug 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A nice selection of endgame tactical puzzles requiring the best move possible whether it be checkmate or capturing to gain a material advantage. The puzzle are nicely mixed, increasing with difficulty which makes the required solution more of a challenge and the puzzle more enjoyable. I like the layout which also has the answers follow each puzzle.

    5.0 out of 5 stars 1500 grading here I come! (Hopefully) 19 Aug 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was tipped off to this book on twitter by the author of the excellent Tactics Time! 1001 Chess Tactics from the Games of Everyday Chess Players and this seems to be more of the same type of thing. I managed to increase my lowly Chess Scotland grade by almost 200 points last season and won my club U1500 Championship, and I think a lot of the credit for the improvement goes to "Tactics Time". I did, however, draw 6 games in a row - I should have won all of them- due to fluffing the endgame. Hopefully this new book will help me sort that flaw out.
    And it is free!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent... 17 Aug 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
I really like this guys' apps so I was expecting something decent - I wasn't disappointed!

The idea is nothing new, a series of tactics exercises, but the simple layout and interesting positions make this book a joy to work through.

The emphasis of course is on the endgame but working through these exercises will improve tactical ability in general. Just work through the book again and again until the solutions can be spotted instantly.

The layout is straightforward, at least on my Android tablet, with the exercise on one page and the solution on the next. This simple format allows the reader to concentrate fully on the positions themselves.

    Highly recommended...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book That Fills a Niche in Tactics Books 25 Feb 2014
By David J. Couture - Published on Amazon.com
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I’ve become convinced over the last few years that practicing tactical exercises is the best way for a class player to improve and actually raise their rating. Any studying that I used to do made me feel like I was learning something, but in retrospect, my rating wasn’t increasing. Once I started studying tactics my rating actually went up a couple of hundred points.

I really like the format of this ebook where the problem is on one page and the answer is on the next. Also, he repeats the original diagram on the answer page with an arrow indicating the first move of the solution so you don’t need to move back and forth between the answer page and the problem page – a nice touch!

I also like the fact that the difficulty of the tactics increases as you progress through the book.

The thing that sets this book apart from other tactics books is that it focuses entirely on the endgame whereas other tactics books pretty much deal only with the middlegame. There’s nothing wrong with focusing on the middlegame, but it’s nice to have a book that focuses entirely on the endgame.

    I recommend this book wholeheartedly!

As an engineer, I value the clean interface of your apps and this book. I cannot comment on the difficulty, as I am a relatively new chess learner. Both your apps and the book give me sufficient challenges. Thank you for developing apps that work well on the kindle fire hd. I have had absolutely no problems. I have all your tactics packages from iChess.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Great warm-up! 24 Mar 2014
By Michael A. Steen - Published on Amazon.com
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a low-intermediate player, I find this book to be a wonderful warm-up and refresher for endgame tactics. All the positions are taken from actual games (in the style of the "Tactics Time" books by Brennan and Carson), with a problem on one page and the solution on the next. The diagrams are crisp and clear, and Pereira continues the new approach of putting black to play on the bottom, as it appears in a real game. Additionally, the positions are entirely random, not orgainized by themes such as pins, Xray, discovery, etc. All we know is the side to play, as in a real game.

This is definitely not a book for the advanced player, unless of course he wants to skim through a few dozen problems very rapidly to keep his eye sharp, but for someone of my level it's very helpful and instructive.

4.0 out of 5 stars good collection of tactical exercises. 14 Dec 2013

Difficulty increases though the book. Good variety. Taken from actual game situations. Endgame or at transition to endgame. No clues. Instructive themes. Definitely a bargain at this modest cost. Good clear diagrams. Puzzle on one page, solution on the next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! 17 Aug 2013

The layout looks fine to me; maybe that problem got fixed? My only suggestion is that there be a link to each pgn file, so that I can play with the puzzle in my analyzer after I finish.
