Book Description

1 Feb 2005
How much better food tastes when it is thoughtfully presented at a beautifully set table! Table decoration creates an atmosphere of hospitality, conviviality and style, and makes your guests feel truly welcome. Table Inspirations offers an abundance of delightful ideas for adorning the table and, unlike other books on table settings, these decorations do not rely on ornate dinner services or canteens of silver cutlery. Instead it is packed with simple, pretty and imaginative suggestions that will bring a dash of originality and elegance to any occasion, with the minimum of effort and fuss. The first section looks at the elements that make up a successful and stylish table: namecards and napkins, coasters and candles. The second section contains an abundance of entertaining ideas for different occasions, from the simplest weekday suppers with friends to classic celebratory dinners. In the invaluable third section, the components of several international table settings are analysed and explained, ensuring that the reader knows how to position every component correctly.

Product Description

A contemporary look at the age-old practice of table-setting. Fresh, funky ideas from ex Good Housekeeping stylist Emily Chalmers to suit every occasion be it a family get together, an intimate dinner a deux or a children's party. After an introduction to the basic necessities of dinner services, flatware, table linen and accessories, Emily moves into specific table settings. She demonstrates how easy it is to liven up even a family breakfast with fresh flowers, quirky egg cups and simple table linen; how to make special occasions such as Christmas, New Year, Easter and birthdays that little bit more special. Candles, votives and table decorations are all given an innovative twist and offer novel takes on the expected: place cards tied to chairs with a colourful ribbon, felt, Astroturf and slate placemats, floating flowers, petals and candles. All ideas are accompanied by the attractive and exciting photographs of renowned lifestyle photographer, David Brittain, making the book not only a visual feast but a practical guide as well. And if a more formal setting is required, clear photographs show the layouts from around the world, both informal and formal. So whatever the occasion take a look through these pages and you are sure to find inspiration to suit. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book for inspiration 6 May 2011
Lovely book for inspiration. It could do with more pages of content but the syles chosen do look nice and the large photos make it easy to replicate the themes.

Visually good, but not what I expected. Not enough inspiration or range of ideas. In all, rather limiting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very inspiring. 27 Mar 2010
By Kathy - Published on

I bought this book new thinking it would show dozens of ideas for tablescaping. It was a disappointment. It is very basic and although it does have pictures of different themed tables it was not very inspiring. It is yet another book I should have "pre-viewed" in the bookstore before deciding to buy.
