I was set on getting a TZ8 to replace my 6 year old 5mp and 3x zoom Sony Cybershot. Then I noticed the TZ18 which is only £20 more and has 14 mp and 16x zoom. But knowing that higher numbers don't always equal better performance, I would appreciate any guidance from other users. Thank you, in hope!
Do not but the TZ18 or its bigger brother the TZ20, them two models are THE WORST cameras in the TZ range, newer does not always mean better, and squeezing more mega pixels onto the same size image sensor actually means worst picture quality, more high ISO noise too, the only thing more mega pixels allow you do to is to print larger sizes, so uless you print sizes A3 and bigger, stick to about 10MP - 12MP as that seems to be the sweet spot.
The TZ8 is still one of the very best compact camera sold.
Also, the TZ25 and TZ30 are out now, but i would not buy either of them too.
