I first heard The Miserable Rich on Marc Rileys 6 music show about six months ago and the sheer beauty, of in particular Boat Song, literally brought a tear to my eye. Ever since that night, I've been waiting in anticipation for the album to come out and now that it has, can confirm that my first impressions were not misplaced. While having a haunting melancholic sound, The Miserable Rich are also strangely uplifting. Lovely melodies with exquisite strings and guitar along with James de Malplaquet's heart wrenching vocals creates an album of gorgeous proportions. The only down side is another wait, this time for live dates in the North of England, which will hopefully arrive early next year. Buy this album, turn the lights down low, poor a glass of wine and let the sound of The Miserable Rich wash over you. I can guarantee it's an experience everyone should share, especially with someone you love.

This is a beautifully crafted record; comprising a sincere emotional core delicately wrapped with an expressive hybrid of folk and classical music arrangements.

Their music is moulded around the poetry of James De Malplaquet in a way that brings to mind Gaudi's attention to nature's angles and curves.

'Monkey' is a fantastic song; full of hidden treasure with surprise jewels to be found on every playback.

After seeing these chaps playing in various venues around Brighton, it's an absolute joy to see their music collected in a handy album format.

The tracks move from melancholy to beautiful, from cheeky to heart-warming and many things in-between.
The collection of cello, upright, violins, guitars and even a music box combined with the distinctive lack of drums - while not perhaps being totally original - creates a raw delicacy to the music and helps to set the band apart from many other acts.

The music is unashamedly romantic and heartfelt, the production is true in spirit to the band themselves and its all wrapped up in great artwork coupled with an interesting paper sleeve....

What's not to love?
