This book assumes at least a passing knowledge of drag racing, but even for non-afficianados, this man is a living legend. Plenty of colour photos to show the various cars he built and raced over a long period.

Before there was a John Force,or a Don Prudhomme(who started out with Tommy Ivo By the way and provides the foreword to the book and describes the many Pranks Ivo Was known for.)There was Drag Racing's Showman himself Actor Tommy Ivo Hence the Nickname "TV" Tommy.Author Tom Cotter(Corvette In The Barn,Hemi In The Barn,Cobra In The Barn,Vincent In The Barn) has once again wrote and put together a Great book, and coming straight from the horse's mouth so to speak The Man Himself TV Tommy. All The Cars from his First Brand New Buick At Age 16 even though he looked like he was 12!plus getting into drag racing accidentally, and then his 55' Buick Century(He had one Blue/white and One Red/White) to how he was never really was Rich just well-off and saved his money from being a child actor. To his Racing behind the Studio's backs and then ultimately pursuing what he loved more:DRAG RACING!.His whole life story is here, all his Cars,Including my Favorites the single then twin BUICK engined and later 4 Buick Engined! "Showboat" car, this is a must read book for Drag Racing Enthusiasts,GM Engined Fans and Especially Buick Fans(What Ivo Started with was "Buick power). The Color Photography and Period Black and white Photos along with Memorabilia/AMT car kits, etc are featured throughout, the Book is a Gearhead Must Read!

HASH(0x8b802cb4) out of 5 stars T.V. Tommy 22 Mar. 2011

Having been a C and an A Gasser and a B Slingshot Dragster owner, builder and driver, I was very familiar with Ivo and always thought he was one of the most innovative guys in the game. In addition to that, he had enough money to put the most sanitary looking rails on the asphalt, and he was a nice guy to boot.

This book says it all.

Fantastically written. Tons of photo's. Great book of history. Tommy is two years older than me. Followed him briefly as I loved drag racing especially in the beginning but not being from California was a burden culture wise. Loved hearing about his first car and how he got into the culture and racing. Loved that new 1952 Buick with Dynaflow which he customized and it was a beauty. Great photos! Then the 1955 Buick Century that he won stock class drag racing and was protested because he was beating Chevy's. He chromed everything under the hood and people thought it was not stock. He held the Dynaflow in low gear until 70 MPH (designed for 50 MPH) and this made it a winning car, but he blew the transmission three times (fixed under warranty). What an innovator he was. I always followed Garlits as an innovator and have read stories about him and he is still my hero ... along now with TV Tommy! Also most interesting learning about the "Snake" and how he worked with Tommy. Exceptionally well written and the photos really, really help make the book, most of which are in color taken by Tommy who was a great photographer. I will now purchase other books written by the author!
HASH(0x8b7fea20) out of 5 stars I loved the book but am a big Ivo fan 2 Sept. 2014

I loved the book but am a big Ivo fan! Fairly short, does hit the high lights I thought and has great pictures. Biographies can get tedious but this moved well. I think Tommy keeps his private life private so the book glosses over some area's but that's just fine with me. He created these impressive cars years ago. I would have liked more information on the construction of the cars. I imagine some of the details are lost to time now.

A good book of a great driver, constructor and showman! I remember seeing him race here in the Northwest! I wasn't aware of his ability to race without damaging his equipment and how much that helped his career. Good book,

Until I read Cotter's work on Ivo I had thought of Ivo as all show and no go. Wow! Was I wrong. Ivo was a promoter's dream-he understood the product and how to package it, and was probably the first drag racer to fill his schedule with as many appearances as possible without caring about points. Appearances paid, points didn't. It was probably lucky coincidence that Ivo ran nailhead Buicks whose low end torque let him come off the line easier and conserve equipment. When Ivo hit the road it was often for nine months or longer so his equipment had to be reliable. Try that today.
