A musical chameleon 24 Sep 2003

A chameleon changes to suit it's environment and thats exactly what Nigel Hess' music does! All his music suits what he writes it for, and is amazingly high quality every time.

If you listen to the likes of Dangerfield and Wycliffe you can see that Hess has mastered that particular genre of solo instrument heavily pitched against the orchestra. But in truth that's not all he can do. Just William is so supremely different to that, but it still maintains it's great quality.

This collection is something to cheer you up on a rainy day...with it's wide variety of types everyone can find something they like.

Until you really sit down and listen, you don't really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these pieces of music. Great writing, brilliantly played really love this album. Highly recommended.

I bought this because I loved the theme song to Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. What a surprise to hear the range of sounds Nigel Hess created for his TV themes. When you think of it, the theme has to capture the program's essence and provide a feel for the stories that unfold. You'll hear sounds that are majestic, fast moving and excited, reflective, danceable, and inspiring. What a find. It's not often you enjoy EVERY song on a CD. Highly recommended.
