My initial impressions were positive as this unit is quite compact and full of useful features. Unfortunately I was overwhelmed by the idea of its wide frequency coverage and took for granted that it would be able to pick up most U.K. amateur radio broadcasts. This thing only has AM, FM & WFM which is fine for things like CB radio on c27Mhz, aircraft on AM and the 8 analogue channels on PMR446 walkie-talkies (which you can get a fair amount of activity on) but it isn't much use for listening to Ham radio overall.

Edit: There's a really detailed and positive review of this scanner @ [...] - it showed me some useful features I didn't know the scanner had since they are not in the manual.

Hiya , now I was abit unsure about this little radio because of its reviews, I perchased the referbished one, and im glad I did, wot a fantastic little set, iv listened to aircraft ferrys and dock side , and iv only , had it a few days, this is a superb radio, the other review says it was deaf , I think he must have hade the tone , setting on , YOU NEED TONE OFF FUNC 9 TO TURN IT OFF.Anyways the radio is quite easy to use battery lasts days , but will take 12 to 15 hours to recharge.now the only 2 things that arnt to good .1 the stock arial is abit to wide for spacific areas , like vhf air or uhf , dont get me wrong it works well , but a good arial for the right wavelength , its much more lively.2 is the fact you need a diddy philips screwdriver to undo the cover for headphones. So like I said nothing to bad buttons feel nice display is clear feels well built , and has no gaps in coverage and can select any mode , am fm wfm and a huge amount of steps to choose from.I love it will it outshine my yupiteru mvt 5000 when I get it back , we will have to see ,I doubt it will let the side down.its a fine set vhf uhf and everything between your mad not to.get an sma to bnc connector and bung any twig you like on it .have fun.

I have only had this for a day so far. First impressions are very favourable with good reception across the whole range using the stock aerial.
In anticipation of it's arrival, I purchased a SMA-BNC connector so I could try it out on my range of aerials.

It has only improved on the rubber duck, with it out-performing my Uniden Bearcat Ezi33 on airband.

The only drawback I have come across is that when scanning, the set seems to be too quick setting off again before the reply from controller/aircraft is finished. Maybe there is something I can adjust in the settings.

As I've said, I only had the set a day, and am impressed with it's performance.

Other reviews say the set is deaf, maybe I got lucky and received a good one.

For such a minature set, it certainly packs a punch.

Not too pleased with this. Sensitivity is pretty poor - not used it too often and will probably sell sooner rather than later. Don't get me wrong; it may be okay for airshow use but for every day portable operation i'd be happier with the old yupi 7100.
