In comparison with their superb live album 'Scored', this album is hopeless. From start to finish, each track is just more of the same aimless wandering favoured by Jerome Froese. This time Loom haven't raided the Tangerine Dream or Schmoelling back catalogue, and what's left is very uninspiring. No killer sequencing, no memorable tunes and little structure or beauty. Tracks start, mess about going nowhere, then finish. Three or four tracks (like Tachycardia) start off promisingly, then go nowhere useful. 'Cloudwalk' would have made an acceptable filler track on a decent album. 'Emerald Suite' simply uses the Irish folk tune 'She Moved Through the Fair', mangles it, then disintegrates into noise.

As a TD and Schmoelling fan for over 25 years, I'm sad to think the whole thing has come to an end. Loom have taken any inspiration they might have had, filtered and processed it too much, and ended up with something as bland as a glass of water. The Loom project is not working. Having listened through the whole album several times, desperately trying to find something positive, I can't.

After the long wait since 'Scored' was released, this is a lazy effort and a massive disappointment. Try harder next time, or give up.

If you give Scored 5 stars, as I would, part of that would be because they had the pick of the Jerome Froese, Johannes Schmoelling and Tangerine Dream back catalogue to pick from and then add a sense of life and vivacity that Tangs themselves have lacked for many a year, and if you give the best Schmoelling albums (e.g. Time & Tide, Zoo Of Tranquility) 5 stars, then this is definitely a 4 star effort.

This album does start off slowly and the first few tracks do tread water a bit, but then it picks up considerably. There are some excellent tunes later on (for example, Bandhu and Chants From The Underworld) and if Emerald Suite does borrow from She Walks Through The Fair then perhaps fairly enough given the title of the song!

After several listens the group do seem to be trying to define their own sound, and though that is understandably within the parameters of where they're coming from it doesn't sound to me like a Jerome or Johannes album, but something slightly crunchier. Schmoelling and Jerome Froese definitely complement each other and I hope we get the chance to hear how they develop that.

Good stuff.
