Jacqui Rose is a novelist who now lives in London, although she hails from Manchester and South Yorkshire. Jacqui first came to appreciate the power of the written word when as a child she charged her classmates a packet of sherbet dips to write their essays for them. Adopted at a young age and always a daydreamer, she felt isolated growing up in a small mining village in South Yorkshire and it was her writing which kept her company. Sent to boarding school as a teenager, it was there she discovered her love for acting and in particular her love of making people laugh. Before taking her exams she was expelled and after a stint in drama school she headed off to London where she was homeless for a short period of times.

Jacqui started teaching voluntarily;drama and writing workshops for prisoners, ex-offenders, the homeless and people suffering from mental health issues. She helped them to develop and create their own plays and ideas, giving them a voice which seemed so lacking within their lives but it was several years before Jacqui herself wrote again.

Jacqui's introduction back to writing was when she began to write and perform stand-up comedy and although this was very short lived it brought back the joy and freedom which writing gave to her, showing her what she'd missed out on for all the years she'd stopped writing.

The idea of her first novel, Taken was born after being in an abusive relationship - once again her writing became her salvation and her freedom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Warfare 6 Mar 2013
By ACB(swansea) TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jacqui Rose has written a novel of family gangland warfare. The rivalry and violence between the Donaldsons and the Taylors has spread to involve bystanders who are sucked into the dispute. They are members who are determined to try and sort out the feud. Max Donaldson is a spiteful and merciless purveyor of recrimination. If you owe him then the sadistic peril that upholds his name befalls you. He has had clashes with the 'Soho Face' of Frankie Taylor, an adversary in the gangster scene in London.

These often violent confrontations inevitably involve family. Complicating the setting is the heroine Maggie Donaldson who is in love with Johnny Taylor, Frankie's son. The interaction between the protagonists is set for a battle of wits and more. As the tension becomes more emotional and vindictive, can a resolution be the answer and if so, how? The author has written an easily readable book that captivates the attention and keeps the guesswork going until the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story 18 April 2013
By Chele
Format:Kindle Edition
For anybody that likes Martina Cole books Jacqui Rose novels will come a close second. She writes in the style of Martina with her own unique twists and turns at every opportunity. Trapped is a great novel and one I had great difficulty setting down even when I was so tired I could hardly read the words, I just didn't want to miss a thing and every page turned over produced even more drama than the one before. I found the more I got into the story the more I wanted to continue reading. Definitely a most read. 10/10

2.0 out of 5 stars Gave up on it 4 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's not often I don't finish a book but this had too many shades of Martina Cole, a writer not to my taste. You can see exactly where the book is heading and I wasn't particulary interested or had enough sympathy with any of the characters, to see if I was right or not.
