A cool looking Prime., 19 Aug 2009

Well, at first I was very unsure about this... I'm not one for forking out big money for these figures, I stick to Voyager at most, however when I was on Ebay, I couldn't give this a miss for the rediculously low price that it went for and I was glad I picked him up, he really is great, perhaps not too movie or even cartoon accurate on the paintjob, but still, I would highly recommend this figure.
The truck mode looks amazing, the paint job is stunning (However soon I will be customising the paint job on a second one I have recently purchased), the black and the blue look beautiful together and with the silver flames, it looks exquisite, I can hardly fault this figure on vehicle mode, however there is one small thing that gets on my nerves, the cannon is clearly seen to the back of the truck, however not a big problem, on such an advanced toy, perhaps not too ideal? However this is only a small complaint. A big bonus point for this figure, the wheels on Transformers mainly are plastic, however on this we have rubber wheels, yes, perhaps not something to shout about, but a nice addition nonetheless.
The robot mode, once we get there, is also a very nice looking thing. However be warned, this does take a good while to transform, and first time is somewhat painful, as the instructions are quite frankly awful, I would recommend looking on YouTube first for some help, or have a fiddle with bits yourself. Anyway, the robot mode on Prime is great, yeah, perhaps not 100% screen accurate, but nonetheless a very nice looking robot mode, the colours are great and the detail is fantastic, a nice automorph gimmick when finishing the transformation is releasing the catch to pop up Prime's head, a rather nice feature to the figure.
One thing I would say that isn't too good about the figure; the lights and sounds. They're... Not so great, yellow lights for one are not a great addition and the sounds are rather poor, a horn noice in vehicle mode and something that resembles a blaster gun in robot mode, however, not a huge complaint and I do suppose much worse could have been done.
All in all, a nice figure and not a bad representation of Prime in my eyes, yeah he might not be red and blue, but still really, really nice. Great for collectors, as for children, parents may find themselves playing with it more than the kids when it comes to transformations, however a child with good experience with Transformers should have no problem figuring it out.
9/10

Although just a repaint of optimus prime i think it looks more like Ultra Magnus which is what i call my one (dorky i know) but he looks great in bot robot and truck but due to his size and class it is obviously difficult to transform, any collector of transformers will know how to transform him after a couple of goes but if your buying him for your child be prepared to spend the day transforming him back and forth for your child. overall a great toy which looks great in a collection. i would recomend buying him but i would wait until the new "Allspark power" refresher line comes out as it will be easier to find in the shops.
