5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent wireless client, 28 Feb 2011
This review is from: TP-Link TL-WR543G 54Mbps Wireless AP Client Router (Personal Computers)
Like most folk, I run a wireless network at home. I wanted to bring the internet to my Xbox in the living room, but I didn't want to pay Microsoft way over the odds for a wireless adapter, and I wanted to firewall the Xbox off from the rest of the network because I knew I would need to open a couple of inbound ports for it, and I didn't trust Microsoft to stop the thing getting rooted.

This little box sorted me out completely. It operates as a wireless client on its WAN port, and contains a firewall, a DHCP server and a router. So now I have four wired ethernet ports in the living room, on a separate subnet from the rest of the house. And it has been up for over a month with no need for a reset. Problem solved!

Likewise I had probs setting it up as a client at first simply because I did not enter the correct IP but my own fault really.
Its working fine as a stand alone client which I am using with my satellite box. When compared to similar routers with same spec this model is very good value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine once you set it up right, 30 Sep 2010
This review is from: TP-Link TL-WR543G 54Mbps Wireless AP Client Router (Personal Computers)
I bought this because I wanted internet connections downstairs in the sitting room to both my freesat box (for BBC iPlayer) and my Blu-ray player (for BD-Live) without running wires all over the house. So I needed something that would run as a 'client' accessing the internet via my wireless router upstairs in my bedroom, and also had more than one LAN port so I could connect it to both my devices. After downloading the instruction manual I decided the TP-Link TL-WR543G fitted the bill. It was just about the only one on the market at the time.

It does the job well and is good value for money, BUT - it was quite hard to get working in the first place. It turned out the reason was that it came with the same default IP address as my existing router and there was a conflict. The manual was no help. After some hours of struggle I realised what the problem was, changed its IP address which took a few seconds, then everything was fine.

I rate this with 4 stars purely because of the set-up difficulties. With better instructions for running it as a wireless client to work with an existing router, I'd have given it 5.
