TL-WR1043ND

What This Product Does

300Mbps Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router TL-WR1043ND is a combined wired/wireless network connection device integrated with internet-sharing router and 4-port switch. It creates wireless network with incredibly high speeds of up to 300Mbps, which ensures that you are freer to simultaneously enjoy multiple high-bandwidth consuming and interruption sensitive applications such as streaming HD video, making VoIP calls, sharing large files and playing online games. Specially, it equipped with a USB storage port on the back of the router for connecting USB storage devices to the network, for convenient resource sharing for everyone on the network.

Wireless N - Extreme Speed & Range

Complies with the IEEE 802.11n standard, users can create a wireless network and get up to 18X the speed and 6X the range of conventional 11g products. The router has the speed to work smoothly with almost any bandwidth intensive application including VoIP, HD streaming, or online gaming, without the lag. Using its powerful N technologies, the router is also able to mitigate data loss over long distances and through obstacles turning your home and even your yard into one big hot - spot.

Wireless N

More Stable Wireless Signals

Signal Sustain Technology (SST) dramatically increases link robustness and throughput by simultaneously transmitting across three spatially-diverse signal paths, and incorporating information from three receivers simultaneously within the signal processing at the receiver. Network connection drops greatly reduced, link robustness and throughput increased, achieves, on average, 50 percent greater sustained throughput at range than 2x2 MIMO systems.

Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) applies the existing WLAN listen-before-talk rule to the bandwidth needed for binding channels. It automatically avoids channel conflicts using its clear channel selection feature and fully realizes the advantages of channel binding, greatly enhanced the wireless performance.

Gigabit Ports - Incredible Bandwidth

With built-in Gigabit Ethernet Switch, TL-WR1043ND provides more powerful data processing abilities, which unleashes the full potential of the N-abled freedom, eliminating bottlenecks in transferring speed between megabit wired and 11n wireless connection. Meanwhile, everything they do will be faster and more efficient, thus users are sharing large files such as high definition video in minutes instead of hours.

Gigabit Ports

USB Sharing Port

This function lets users attach USB storage directly to the router, allowing users to instantly access the data locally or through Internet with FTP Server function. Built in Media Server functionality lets you share music, videos, and photos to the media player on your PC, XBOX360, PS3 and other compatible devices.

Quick Secure Setup

Compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setup?(WPS), TL-WR1043ND features Quick Security Setup that allows users to almost instantly setup their security simply by pressing the "QSS" button on the router automatically establishing a WPA2 secure connection, which is more security compared with WEP encryptions. Not only is this faster than normal security setups but more convenient in that you don't need to remember a password!

IP QoS - Control Bandwidth Reasonably

Among the wireless network, indiscriminate Internet surfing and bandwidth-guzzling downloads by internal users often leave home or small office with insufficient bandwidth. TL-WR1043ND supports IP QoS function, allowing optimum utilization of bandwidth and offers bandwidth control over congestion, preventing the bandwidth abuse. In this way, the users of a small network receive committed and specific bandwidth, preventing non-critical applications from degrading network performance.

Easy to Use

Easy To Use

Even novice users can easily setup their networking products. The device comes with a CD with an Easy Setup Assistant that leads you through the setup process step-by-step, and even helps with wireless network settings and security configurations.

Great little router 10 Jan 2011
I cannot comment on this router in terms of its DHCP as I have never used that function, similarly for the NAS.
However everything else is quite commendable. Most of the negative reviews on this site are as a result of improper setup as opposed to problems with the actual unit.

Firstly, please note that if you plan to expand your wireless range with this router and you only have "G" devices, you will not notice any difference. You will also need up upgrade your devices to "N" to gain the increased range. This is not a restriction of the router, this is a restriction of the wireless standard itself.

Very simple to set up with a very easy to use interface; in fact the TP Link firmware is one of the easiest to navigate I've come across. The router was set up in no time at all and offered a very high level of stability. A nice touch is the ability to enable QoS, meaning that if someone decides to start downloading a movie then they don't immediately hog all the bandwidth for the other users!

I then installed DD-WRT onto it very easily, and configured it as a custom wireless bridge point. The beauty of this router is that it even states in the manual that the DD-WRT firmware is supported, although they will offer no technical assistance if you choose to use it.
The router was easily reconfigured as part of my wireless bridge setup and has been stable ever since I turned it on, both before and after the firmware change.

I cannot fault this router in any way; it is stable, has a good signal range and has effective native firmware - supporting DD-WRT to boot. 5 stars.

I have owned wireless routers from Netgear, D-Link, BT, Linksys (i.e. Cisco) and I can say confidently that the TP-Link 1043ND is the most impressive I have used. Not only does it perform all the standard wireless routing functions flawlessly but it can also be customised as a small reliable general purpose server when upgraded with the open source linux-based OpenWRT operating system. So far, I have been able to configure the TP-Link 1043ND/OpenWRT as a file server, a USB multifunction printer and scanner, a USB webcam server, a secured key-based SSH server, an rsync backup server, a kerberos domain server, a filtering web-proxy; and from what I have seen the TP-Link 1043ND hardware with OpenWRT should also allow functions such as multiple ADSL/Cable modems with load balancing, VLANs, openvpn client/server, a small asterisk VOIP telephone server (performance is probably fine for a handful of simultaneous lines), a nagios monitoring server and a caching web-proxy amongst many other available features!

Gigabit perfection 21 Jun 2011
By Chris
After updating the router's firmware (which adds a few features like GMT<->BST, and more importantly different service/internal ports for port forwarding) this router has worked flawlessly with both my wireless and wired equipment. Just waiting for TP-Link to release an update for encrypted SMTP authentication (for emailing logs) but it doesn't deserve to lose a star for that. Thoroughly recommended. (also, mine did come with a UK plug...)
