5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up, excellent performance! 7 Mar 2014
Style Name:AV200 WiFi|Verified Purchase
I am really glad that I settled on this particular model. I spent a great deal of time comparing different makes and reading all of the reviews. Some of the reviews mentioned problems setting up etc which may scare some people off, so here is my honest straightforward experience of setting it up:

1) Plugged the TP-Link TL-WPA281into the extension block that my existing powerline adapter is plugged into (this is the one connected directly to my router via ethernet).

2) Pressed the sync button on the both for around a second or so.

3) They connected (you can tell this as the data lights on both will begin to flicker as they talk to each other)

4) I then unplugged the TP-Link TL-WPA281 and relocated it to my back livingroom which doesnt pick up the wifi from my router (which is located at the front of the house). ALL DONE!

I now have a wifi signal across the whole house (and the back garden). The TP-Link TL-WPA281 has its own SSID (wifi name) so I can easily see if Im connected to the routers wifi or the TP-Link TL-WPA281. Performance through the TP-Link TL-WPA281 is excellent, the wifi signal is strong, the speeds are very good, and the ping is only marginally higher than when I am connected to the routers wifi directly.

The only other thing I did was change the SSID of the TP-Link TL-WPA281. To do this you need to run the included CD on a windows machine. This allows you to access the TP-Link TL-WPA281's internal page (very similar to a routers internal page) and change various things. My existing routers SSID is something like Netgear N600, so I changed the TP-Link TL-WPA281's to Netgear N600 (BR) which stands for back room.

Now as I move around my house with my phone, laptop, or iPad, the devices jump between the router and the TP-Link TL-WPA281 automatically. When they switch you will drop connection for a few seconds or so but aside from that its pretty much seamless.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works ok some of the time 6 Dec 2013
Style Name:AV500 WiFi|Verified Purchase
Added this to existing non wireless powerline network running of bt home hub 3 to resolve weak wireless signal at other end of house to router.

It did not pick up the wps settings automatically as advertised despite several attempts to get it to work and following instructions religiously. As others have said about this product the instructions that come with the product are lame and the online help is useless so you really are on your own.

I resorted to manual configuration. If you use the default wireless set up then it works well however if you have tablets or laptop and move around the house obviously you lose strength in wireless connection as you move away from device so needing to drop the connection and then rejoin stronger connection. Basically a pain.

I then set up the device with same configuration as homehub3 (same wireless name and password). This is a bit confusing as you can't determine which network signal you're connected to unless you connect laptop to unit via wire and install admin clients to see connections to wireless port by MAC address.

This works perfectly with ipad and I no longer get a dropped connection as did previously without this in place. There is also much better connection speed although with some latency across the powerline which is to be expected.

Where this doesn't work so well is with older dell studio laptop running windows xp. That seems to get itself really confused about which network to join and effectively it prevents the wireless network working at all.

So to summarise, This is great for 2 network ports and works well if you want a wireless connection far away from your existing wireless for an ipad.

Style Name:AV500 WiFi|Verified Purchase
Bought to extend TP-Link Powerline Extender Kit i bought from John Lewis which was quite literally "plug and play".

Amazon click and collect service was OUTSTANDING - not often you would hear me say that but it really was incredibly efficient and simple, including the return of the wrong product i ordered in error!

Extender synced to network but it is not obvious that you have to treat the TP Link like a different wireless router and save the access code as you would any other wireless access point. That said to my total amazement I went through to technical support on an 0845 number in less than a minute and a very helpful technician from the other side of the world helped me sort out my misunderstanding (and stayed with me to prove it worked) in 5 minutes.

I suspect the wifi cloning is probably cleverer than my understanding and the instructions really need to be dumbed down further for the likes of me but getting great wifi reception in blind spot of the house - result!

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so great 21 Jan 2014
Style Name:AV200 WiFi|Verified Purchase
Almost perfect. Paired to my Sky hub I assume ok but when I took it to the offending dead zone we picked up the new wi if as a new connection called TP-Link...... When I tried to connect it asked for a password. Sky one didn't work so I called the help desk: got through in a couple of mins and she was very helpful. They told me that the pass number was on the plug itself (facing the wall....). So I disconnected and unplugged and wrote down the pass number and Bingo!! A full bar of wi fi. My daughter will be so pleased. This would appear to be the answer to our wi if woes so a small price to pay.
