TP-LINK 300Mbps AV500 Wi-Fi Powerline Extender

What This Product Does

TP-Link's TL-WPA4220 extends your Internet connection to every room through your home's electrical circuitry. The TL-WPA4220 features a Wi-Fi Clone Button, enabling Super Range Extension, meaning it can automatically copy the SSID and password of your router. In this way, TL-WPA4220 simplifies your Wi-Fi configuration and allows for seamless roaming within your home network.

One-Touch Super Range Extension

With a Wi-Fi Clone Button enabling Super Range Extension, the TL-WPA4220 can automatically copy the wireless network name (SSID) and password of your router at the push of a button. After pressing the button, place the powerline adapter anywhere you want wired or wireless access and enjoy networking across your home or office.

Up to 500Mbps -- Ideal for HD Video Streaming

With advanced HomePlug AV technology, TL-WPA4220 provides you with stable, high-speed data transfer rates of up to 500Mbps on a line length of up to 300-meters. It is a great choice for a whole home solution to connect all network compatible devices -- from computers, game consoles to set-top boxes for IPTV to printers and NAS hard drives.

Extend Wi-Fi Coverage to Every Room

With wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps, you can effortlessly extend your Wi-Fi network via the powerline and broadcast a wireless signal to share with all your Wi-Fi-enabled devices in another area of your home or office.

Plug and Play

You can set up a hassle-free Powerline network within minutes with TP-Link's powerline adapters, just plug in and play. Also, the adapters' Pair buttons can be utilised for securing or managing multiple powerline adapters in your home powerline network.

  1. Plug one Internet-connected adapter into a nearby power outlet.
  2. Connect additional adapters to PC/laptop/Internet TV or other networked devices via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi
  3. Press the encryption buttons -- and you're done

*Recommended: Press the pair buttons for network security and data encryption.

I am really glad that I settled on this particular model. I spent a great deal of time comparing different makes and reading all of the reviews. Some of the reviews mentioned problems setting up etc which may scare some people off, so here is my honest straightforward experience of setting it up:

1) Plugged the TP-Link TL-WPA281into the extension block that my existing powerline adapter is plugged into (this is the one connected directly to my router via ethernet).

2) Pressed the sync button on the both for around a second or so.

3) They connected (you can tell this as the data lights on both will begin to flicker as they talk to each other)

4) I then unplugged the TP-Link TL-WPA281 and relocated it to my back livingroom which doesnt pick up the wifi from my router (which is located at the front of the house). ALL DONE!

I now have a wifi signal across the whole house (and the back garden). The TP-Link TL-WPA281 has its own SSID (wifi name) so I can easily see if Im connected to the routers wifi or the TP-Link TL-WPA281. Performance through the TP-Link TL-WPA281 is excellent, the wifi signal is strong, the speeds are very good, and the ping is only marginally higher than when I am connected to the routers wifi directly.

The only other thing I did was change the SSID of the TP-Link TL-WPA281. To do this you need to run the included CD on a windows machine. This allows you to access the TP-Link TL-WPA281's internal page (very similar to a routers internal page) and change various things. My existing routers SSID is something like Netgear N600, so I changed the TP-Link TL-WPA281's to Netgear N600 (BR) which stands for back room.

Now as I move around my house with my phone, laptop, or iPad, the devices jump between the router and the TP-Link TL-WPA281 automatically. When they switch you will drop connection for a few seconds or so but aside from that its pretty much seamless.

Bought to extend TP-Link Powerline Extender Kit i bought from John Lewis which was quite literally "plug and play".

Amazon click and collect service was OUTSTANDING - not often you would hear me say that but it really was incredibly efficient and simple, including the return of the wrong product i ordered in error!

Extender synced to network but it is not obvious that you have to treat the TP Link like a different wireless router and save the access code as you would any other wireless access point. That said to my total amazement I went through to technical support on an 0845 number in less than a minute and a very helpful technician from the other side of the world helped me sort out my misunderstanding (and stayed with me to prove it worked) in 5 minutes.

I suspect the wifi cloning is probably cleverer than my understanding and the instructions really need to be dumbed down further for the likes of me but getting great wifi reception in blind spot of the house - result!

Added this to existing non wireless powerline network running of bt home hub 3 to resolve weak wireless signal at other end of house to router.

It did not pick up the wps settings automatically as advertised despite several attempts to get it to work and following instructions religiously. As others have said about this product the instructions that come with the product are lame and the online help is useless so you really are on your own.

I resorted to manual configuration. If you use the default wireless set up then it works well however if you have tablets or laptop and move around the house obviously you lose strength in wireless connection as you move away from device so needing to drop the connection and then rejoin stronger connection. Basically a pain.

I then set up the device with same configuration as homehub3 (same wireless name and password). This is a bit confusing as you can't determine which network signal you're connected to unless you connect laptop to unit via wire and install admin clients to see connections to wireless port by MAC address.

This works perfectly with ipad and I no longer get a dropped connection as did previously without this in place. There is also much better connection speed although with some latency across the powerline which is to be expected.

Where this doesn't work so well is with older dell studio laptop running windows xp. That seems to get itself really confused about which network to join and effectively it prevents the wireless network working at all.

So to summarise, This is great for 2 network ports and works well if you want a wireless connection far away from your existing wireless for an ipad.

This is an updated version of previous, similar, purchase..
It will solve your connectivity problems by using the your internal power supply lines to distribute your internet connection.
It'll also boost the WiFi signal.

I bought this to extend my current powerline setup, works a treat even with the previous older units.

Very easy to use, comes with decent instruction. Recommended for a novice.

I've bought from TP Link before - and will again.

Great product, instructions are VERY POOR the hidden button... YES the botton green LED is actually a button, you can spend hours trying to make them work as a WPS until you find the button.

I ended up just re configuring the address and then stumbled on to this hidden jem. Make sure you configure them next to each other or you can spend ages walking between rooms.

Great signal and they can work out of the box...just take ten minutes to read, read and then re-read the instructions.
