I installed Linux Mint (Kataya) on my old laptop which was struggling to run Windows and it wouldn't recognise the PCI card wireless adapter. This item appears on the Mint website list of things that work straight out of the box so I ordered one and that's exactly what it does. So, if you put a Linux operating system on your computer this is a great way to get online wirelessly.
The item itself doesn't look like the most robust thing in the world but as long as you're careful not to tread on it, it should be OK. Arrived quickly and well packaged.

TP-Link TL-WN721N 150Mbps Wireless USB Adaptor. Works with Ubuntu 10.10. and seems Linux friendly.

I was actually sent the TL-WN721N instead of the WN727N pictured above. However, I've been using it for a couple of weeks now on the Linux Ubuntu 10.10 with a Gnome 2.x Desktop. It has been working fine in maintaining the network connection. The wireless stick itself does not get too warm, and is robust enough for general use, though I would not want to see it trodden on!
Appears to be good value for money. I would recommend it to anyone using Linux who is using a reasonably up to date kernel (2.6.35 onwards). I also tested it on Vector Linux 7 Live CD, which runs the latest 3.x kernel, and it picked up this wireless usb stick and made a connection just fine..

WiFi adaper
