Much better coverage than a normal/standard, "range max" wifi stick I tried.
On a recent holiday, when the hotel's wifi failed, I used it to connect to a free wifi service from a local cafe, quite some distance away, from within the hotel. Ideal unit for low coverage areas / back-up holiday use when signal quality may be unknown / very variable. Only slight downside is connection by USB wire - but this allows you to place it outside the window if necessary (though an external antenna would be better for this).

I purchased this unit to attach to my business laptop which is located in my cellar. The router is located on the ground floor about 8ft away but it is through two thick walls (foil backed plasterboard etc.) and I can barely get a normal wireless signal. When I plugged in the TP Link I had an excellent signal, like I was right next to the router. It also has a brilliant range.

I bought the TP link usb wifi adaptor, to allow the connection of high gain external antenna.
I recently joined the BT fon shared free access open zone community. This allows internet access from over 2 million uk hot spots. The range of my internal netbook aerial is insufficient, and I wanted to experiment. The TP link wifi unit works very well. The sensitivity with known reference antenna in a fixed location is certainly a few db better than my linksys PCI card in my workshop pc. The reverse sma connector on the TP link device allows the connection of numerous external aerials.
I have achieved access to the fon network over some remarkable distances using my homemade quad loop aerial shown in the picture, over 1km so far. The standard aerial that comes with the unit is fine around the house and will give a significant improvement over the standard netbook internal arrangement. By using one of the high gain flat panel antenna problems of internal walls etc can be overcome. Looking forward to trying a parabolic dish next.
