Style Name:16 Port Desktop/Rack|Verified Purchase
I bought this 16 Port switch to connect up my growing connected home, which was previously lashed together with two basic 4 port 10/100 mbps switches.

I have connected up a BT Home Hub v3 (also acts as a WiFi access point), Microsoft Windows Media Centre, Xbox360, Freesat Box with BBC iPlayer, Five additional Ethernet ports in other rooms, and a second Wifi Access Point (TP-Link TL-WA701ND 150Mbps Wireless Lite N Access Point ) = 10 Ports used in Total.

All plug and Play. As I have two wireless access points I just had to make the TP-Link access point get its ip address from the BT Home Hub's DHCP server so that ip addresses were not duplicated.

The TP-Link 16 Port Switch has a solid metal casing that gives it a feel of huge quality compared with the plastic casing on the TP-Link WiFi access point BUT both products work very well indeed and are priced very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Product 21 Sep 2011
Style Name:24 Port Desktop/Rack|Verified Purchase
I am future proofed for now. Switches are great products, plug em in and off you go you're done. This product has energy saving gubins which turns of sections of the ports which was part of the attraction but it whirrs away all the time the fan although not loud is on all the time so you may need to consider that when choosing a location for it - I wonder what might happen if the fan fails? As far as performance is concerned it hasn't put a foot wrong. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

5.0 out of 5 stars looks the business, and works the business too 10 Jun 2011

Very professional looking piece of kit. built out of metal casing, and is as big as one of those rack computers themselves. The power cord is a standard PC power cord, and plugs right into the case (this means the power supply is inside the case). I also have the 5 and 8 port versions, which are made of plastic casing, and the power supply is inside the plug itself. This means the 24 port version looks very sturdy and professional, whereas the 5/8 port versions look more flimsy. Having said that, they all work flawlessly, unlike the ZyXel, which costs more and blows up only after half an hour's use (I did have a replacement from EBuyer, which seems to work without any further problem so far).

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and reliable 3 April 2013
By IanC
Style Name:16 Port Desktop/Rack|Verified Purchase
Looking for a reliable unit to provide port expansion I chose this unit over the Netgear equivalent because of previous experience of TP-Link equipment and I have not been disappointed. Literally plug and play, mains power directly to the switch, no wall wart power supply to deal with, it comes complete with rack mounting plates, which, in my case, I have used, but could just as easily be used in a desktop format and, due to its metal casing, is heavy enough not to slide about. Operationally it works very well, adjusting the port speed to the equipment it is connected to automatically, and the energy saving feature is a nice touch. There is a perceived increase in file transfer speeds against the switch it replaced. I have this switch running 24/7 and so far not a problem of any kind. Fit and forget definitely describes this switch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin 22 Feb 2012
Style Name:24 Port Desktop/Rack
I got this switch to expand my wired network on my home office, as I work from home on multiple personal projects, I have quite a few computers running, and needed more network throughput without breaking the bank, this switch sounded like a good product for a reasonable price. Of course I had to compromise as my original idea was a managed switch but this one does what I need now. I get very good performance result from the original speed tests I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best so far 28 Mar 2013
Style Name:16 Port Desktop/Rack|Verified Purchase
Having been an avid user of Netgear switches, saw this was highly recommended by others, so thought I would give it a try, as I need to increase my number of outlets and reposition my old switch to another location, the only thing I don't like is that the outlets for the ethernet cables is on the front, but that is beside the point, this switch is the best one I have had and was very easy to set up.

I needed a fanless switch for my applications and not having bought TP-Link before (having always bought Netgear products for at least the past 10 years, which have been excellent), thought I would give them a try and checked the TP-Link website for specification details that are omitted from the Amazon page before bying. The TP-Link website was very clear that this is a fanless switch, however on delivery the item clearly had a fan and very different from the current TP-Link specs.

The current, at time of writing, production version of this switch is v2.3 (which is fanless). Amazon supplied, as new, old v1.2 product which has a fan. The product codes for both of these items are the same. The current v2.3 switch also comes with an advertised 5 year guarantee, where the old fan version only has 3 years. Clearly where TP-Link are making significant changes to the product, it would seem appropriate to also change the product code and detail proper specifications accordingly so buyers can be sure what they are going to get.

After an exchange of several emails with TP-Link support, I was unable to get a satisfactory outcome in time and so sent the item back to Amazon for refund. As always, Amazons returns process was painless, but someone really needs to check more carefully what's current when suppliers are passing off old products through them as current which will only serve to increase returns and damage reputations.

Having had one of these switches for 18 months now it has worked flawlessly, never switched off, never rebooted.
