Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The TL-SF1008P 8-port 10/100M Desktop PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch provides seamless network connection, integrating 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 10 Mbps (Ethernet) network capabilities. 4 of the 8 Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports (port-1 to port-4) of the switch supports the PoE function. These PoE ports can automatically detect and supply power with those IEEE 802.3af compliant Powered Devices (PDs). In this situation, the electrical power is transmitted along with data in one single cable allowing you to expand your network where there are no power lines or outlets and you wish to fix additional network devices (APs, IP Cameras, IP Phones etc.)

The TL-SF1008P has a priority function which will help protect the system when the system power is overloaded. If the total PoE power consumption is greater than 53 W, the switch will automatically proritise the 4 PoE ports in terms of power, cutting power to the lowest priority port first.

The TL-SF1008P switch is easy to install and use; it requires no configuration and installation. With desktop design, outstanding performance and quality, the TP-link TL-SF1008P PoE switch is a great selection when expanding your home or office network.

802.3af 9 April 2011
By Chris
Please be aware that this device only provides 802.3af type A power - power and data on pins 1+2 and 3+6.
It will not support (the more common) type B - data on 1+2 and 3 + 6, power on pins 4+5 and 7+8.

If you need to power Cisco telephones, this is unlikely to work for you, however you might be able to work around that using a crossover cable.

I've not been very impressed with TPLink equipment so far - we picked up a 4wan router recently and found it doesn't support very basic settings.

Rubbish 20 Feb 2012
Avoid, struggles to power Poe cameras, ports drop power randomly. Thought my problem was my cctv cameras until I purchased a netgear Poe switch. All camera problems stopped once switch swapped out. This is a cheap and cheerful solution, but cheap often doesn't mean reliable.

This is an 8 port switch, with 4 PoE ports. It feels solid and well made - I often take one with me for demoing equipment and working at customer sites, and I can just chuck it in a bag without worrying as much as with more "plasticy" switches.

It has an external power supply, which uses a standard IEC (kettle) lead - another bonus when you're searching for cables. Beware that this is a 48V power supply, but the DC connector is the same size as many 12V supplies; one of our sales guys accidentally used the power supply from this switch with another piece of equipment and fried the circuit board.

Other than that, it's a standard 100MBps 8-port switch.
