TP-Link
High-Speed Performance

Enjoy wireless online gaming, voice streaming and watching HD videos with TL-WN823N 300Mbps mini wireless N USB adapter. TL-WN823N is small and easy to transport, allowing you to connect your laptop or desktop to a wireless network and enjoy high-speed wireless performance anywhere. The TL-WN823N also features SoftAP Mode, one-button security setup and easy-to-use configuration software.

Extend Wireless Coverage

With wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps and advanced MIMO technology, the TL-WN823N offers a fast, reliable wireless connection for lag-free online gaming and video streaming. Although the best performance can be achieved when used with wireless N devices, the TL-WN823N also works well with IEEE 802.11b/g networks.

TP-Link
SoftAP Mode, Easy Wireless Internet Sharing

SoftAP Mode enables this tiny adapter to work as a virtual wireless Access Point. Once applied, you can use the mode to easily wired connections to wireless and share it with other Wi-Fi enabled devices, including laptops, smartphones or tablets.

One Button Security Setup

TL-WN823N is compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) and features Quick Security Setup. Simply press the WPS button on the device to automatically establish a WPA2 secure connection -- more secure than WEP encryptions. No password is required, meaning not only is this faster than normal security setups, it is also more convenient.

Easy to Use

Install your wireless network settings in minutes using the simple and user-friendly optimised configuration utility, which is included in the resource CD.

After reviewing many Wifi adapters, the given was to avoid nano adapters as they couldn't handle long hours of surfing/HD streaming, the larger better range adapters were simply ugly and inconvenient to place. I went for the mini because it had 300Mbps which was a prerequisite for me plus it has small and sleek look. I am thoroughly happy with the adapter it performs very well at a long distance and doesn't have a drop in connection, I would recommend this item.

Why 4 stars and not 5? Well, another reviewer mentioned that it gets hot and that leads to a slow down in speed. This did happen to me, but only once, and since then I have connected it to a USB extension where it happily sits on my desk rather than glued to the back of my PC. The installation CD that came with it is rubbish, don't bother installing it simply use the CD as a coaster for your tea. Instead download the very latest drivers from the TP-Link website and away you go! A nice working WiFi adapter for £10!

I hope that helps.

I bought one of these a few days ago to replace a faulty built-in wireless card on an ASUS netbook. I use LinuxMint and needed a linux-compatible card. An earlier reviewer said they had bought one and it worked on Linux. However, mine did not, it seems that version #1 of this adapter is supported by the kernel, whereas version #2 is not.
To confirm which version you have:-
Type “lsusb” without the quotes into a Terminal window
The result should look something like this:-
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
If it shows ID 0bda:8179 you have version #2, if it shows ID 0bda:8176 you have version #1
After doing some ‘googling’ I had enough information to be able to locate the source code and compile and install the correct driver. If, like me, you have version#2, the following commands typed (or copied/pasted) into a Terminal window will :-
1) Download and install (from Linux repos) all the software required, if not already installed, to add a git repository and compile drivers from the source code.
2) Create a working folder within your home folder into which the source code will be downloaded from GitHub.com.
3) Compile, install and verify the installation of the driver.
4) Close the Terminal window.

sudo apt-get install git git-core
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic git
mkdir ~/RTL8188EU
cd ~/RTL8188EU
git clone git://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu.git
cd rtl8188eu
make
sudo make install
sudo depmod -a
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo modprobe 8188eu
exit

The above commands were copied/pasted from my Terminal window after successfully installing the driver onto my netbook running LinuxMint 16 and a desktop machine running LinuxMint 14.

Hope this helps someone. Good Luck.

I had doubts when I bought this product as to its ability to produce a wi-Fi connect for a desktop computer. But my doubts were soon dismissed as soon as I had it up and running. No complaints whatsoever about the setup or performance.
Would recomend it without doubt

I bought it to connect to my home hub from my shed in the garden.
It connects with 2 bars on the signal scale with ubuntu, this is 200 yards away and through a solid brick wall.
Simple and easy to install

This amazingly tiny and good looking wireless adapter caught my eye at the computer shop and even though i wanted it for my Apple Macintosh PowerBook G4 and it does not list OS X as being compatible I bought it anyway.

Eager to get this thing working on my Mac I did a bit of searching on Google and managed to find a great third party driver, just for OS X.

It was really easy to setup and I have to say the speed and signal strength is really top notch. I managed to get 100% signal (tried at around 40 feet away from my router) and got the maximum speed of my broadband connection.

Works reliably and the OS X driver uses very little CPU resources (less than 1%).

Tip to get this working on an Apple Mac: Search Google for TL-WN725N Chipset. Once you find the chipset (i forgot what chipset it uses) then search for an OS X driver for that chipset. It is called something like Green WLan or Green something. Just install it, restart the computer and you are ready to go.

I bought this to upgrade the on-board Wi-Fi on my old Fujitsu Lifebook from G to N. I had never bought any TP-Link products before this and was quite surprised at the quality feel of the casing. It looks good and feels well-made and sturdy. It installed on my XP Pro Lifebook, but I had to ignore the enclosed instructions and install the TP-Link client to get it working. (It tells you not to install the TP-Link client for XP in the instructions!) Since then it has worked perfectly. I have also tried it on my Windows 7 64 bit machine and it installed and ran without any problem on that machine. I was so impressed with the quality that, when my Netgear router died, I bought a TP-Link router too! See my other review for more details. Very impressive little dongle!! For the money you can't really go wrong with this, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
