Everything about this Topaz Rat Cage has been made to very high standards; every design feature is there for a reason, making this a 100% chew proof, secure cage large enough to keep even a chinchilla
One of the problems with many popular rat cages for sale is the fact that plastic bases, often very thin plastic can be chewed in a short time by rodents like degus and chinchilla because the base is not protected, the current answer is to make a metal base, that lacks style and will eventually peel and rot, that's simply not good enough for us at Posh Pets, we want you to have this cage for a very long time, so we had this Topaz Rat Cage manufactured with chrome bars going right into the base of the deep blue tray, then a chrome grid slotting onto the floor, thus making this cage 100% chew proof, yet still being able to have a stylish modern quality base with wheels that will always look fantastic and never rot

Not as good as it looks,

I own a slightly different cage to this made by the same company, the only difference is the base on this one has wheels. OK, it's a good cage for the price and it gives my 2 rats a decent amount of space to run around in. There's enough room to fit a giant wheel for them, toys and housing. The downsides are:The bars are chrome - this rusts very easily. It can be cleaned off but it's a pain to have to do it every week. Again because of the bars the rats will chew them, and because they aren't plastic coated it will make a horrendous noise when you're trying to sleep. If you keep the cage in your bedroom like I do then this is a problem. The wooden platforms supplied are nice, but eventually they will become saturated with urine and you can't do anything but throw the platforms away. I found a good alternative to this was to cover the platforms with something like lino which is wipe clean. Also the wood isn't very nicely manufactured, it could do with sanding down before you put it in the cage. The bars on the bottom of the cage should not be there in the case of rats. rats need a base where they don't have to worry about trapping feet or tails when they bounce about, and not having a flat surface to rest their feet can result in them getting something called bumblefoot.The solution to this is simply to remove the bars in the base as the plastic is fine. And the rats won't chew through this like it says in the description. Some good points - easy to assemble and easy to take down again. A decent size for 2 female rats, males might find it a bit of a squeeze. A decent price (although you can get it cheaper elsewhere). All in all, if you can afford it, go for something better.
