By RR Waller TOP 500 REVIEWER
We have a number of TomToms in the family, some early versions passed on and a later Go Live 1005 bought as a recent present; although I have used other satnavs, I prefer TomToms which have everything I want (and more). I bought my wife (who travels a great deal but has no sense of driection) an early TomTom XL IQ Routes Edition 2 and she says with enthusiasm, she could not have done her busy professional job without it - an essential pieve of kit.

I bought this for myself for those occasions when we both need one. It is excellent; although it is minus the Live format, I am very pleased with it and have had none of the software problems a few reviewers have experienced, despite living in the depths of the country on an unnamed road. The wide screen is very good, giving more detail in a less cramped format, e.g. at major motorway junction all the lanes appear, making choices easier. It also has an integrated windscreen holder, something I was not used to and did not like when I opened the box; however, it is a much better idea, works very effectively and, because everything has to be removed and secured in the glove-compartment, does not leave the tell-tale ring holder on the windscreen, a sure sign for thieves. It has so many facilities and functions I have not tried yet but I am very impresse so far (as I expected to be).

Although on difficult journeys I still consult a map first to have a mental idea of the route, these devices take the strain out of these journeys, allowing everyone in the car to enjoy them, e.g. passengers can look out of the window rather than navigating. I feel strongly that, because of the tranquility they have brought to cars, the inventors should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and finding their way to the award venue would be so simple.

tomtom via 125 3 Mar 2012
By madmick
Having had an old tomtom one V2 for quite sometime I thought it was time to upgrade, so bought the tomtom via 125. Having tested it in my truck for the last 2 days I can truely say it is an excellent bit of kit, although obviously it tried to send me down a few roads that the truck was not allowed to go down (7.5 tonn limits) lol.

I was going to buy the tomtom start 20 UK & ROI, but when Amazon put the price up to £99 from £85 I thought I might as well buy the via 125 for £100 delivered, bigger screen and covers western europe, plus other extras for basically the same price.

Updating and installing the maps etc when first plugged into the home PC took about 1.5 hours in total. Lane guidance is excellent, spoken directions excellent, volume excellent, even in a noisey truck with the radio playing.

Having read reports of people having trouble with the tomtom falling off their windscreen, I can say that I had no such trouble, even going of speed bumps at 30mph. A little bit of spit and pressure when affixing the mount to the screen works perfectly. Ive also read quite a few reports about the 125 not fitting
in protective cases very well, so I went to PC World today and bought the "TUCANO Youngster 2.5" Hard Drive Case" for £7.99 which is perfect, I can even get the cables in it as well.

Oh by the way, the tomtom is for the car, not the truck. lol

TomTom VIA 125 18 Jan 2012
I bought this model TomTom for myself because my sense of direction is useless and driving in new places and busy cities is stressful.
Thankfully this TomTom does 'exactly what it says on the tin'. Whilst the LIVE version would benefit someone who spends a lot of time on the road, this version suits me.
As mentioned in the previous review, I too have not had any of the software problems a few reviewers have experienced. The super 5 inch wide screen is very good, giving you more detail than the smaller models and not distracting enough that your not watching what's in front of you.

The Pros:

- 5 inch screen
- Voice control
- Hands free answering
- Spoken street names (confirmation your going the right way)
- Advanced lane guidance (pure genius)
- IQ routes
- Speed cameras (stops the fines)
- Battery life
- FULL postcode search (unlike earlier models)
- Map share technology (which is useful if you mates have similar models)
- Integrated windscreen holder

The Cons:

- Can't think of any at the moment
