Product Description

Book Description

The best-selling classic of the power of love and forgiveness in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.

From the Back Cover

Now A Major Motion Picture Starring Robert Carlyle and Kiefer Sutherland

‘Waking from a dream, I suddenly realized where I was: in the Death House–in a prison camp by the River Kwai. I was a prisoner of war, lying among the dead, waiting for the bodies to be carried away so that I might have more room.’
When Ernest Gordon was twenty-four he was captured by the Japanese and forced, with other British prisoners, to build the notorious ‘Railroad of Death’, where nearly 16,000 Prisoners of War gave their life. Faced with the appalling conditions of the prisoners’ camp and the brutality of the captors, he survived to become an inspiring example of the triumph of the human spirit against all odds.

To End All Wars is Ernest Gordon’s gripping true story behind both the Academy Award-winning film The Bridge on the River Kwai starring Alec Guinness and the new film To End All Wars directed by David Cunningham.

Favourable Review 10 Sep 2009
By Harris
Format:Paperback
I took this book on holiday to read after another Author (Philip Yancey) had recommended it in one of his books. I couldn't believe what an amazing story it was. I found it fascinating that these men went from a life of complete self-centredness to being selfless in their caring of others after they witnessed a few Christian's self sacrifice for their fellow man. I never re-read books but this is one I will (once I get it back off all my friends). A fabulous Christian book.

To End All Wars 24 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
Harrowing story about how British officers survived (or did not survive) life in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.
At times, descriptions of the atrocities committed by the Japanese soldiers and the conditions in which these men had to survive, moved me to tears. Underlying it all is the sense of a strong Christian faith, which helped these prisoners to live in such dreadful conditions and to suffer so much cruelty, yet still survive, and eventually leading them to find it in themselves to forgive their captors.

Remembering the POWS 10 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
Read and remember them. Such terrible suffering should never be forgotten. A difficult read sometimes because the stories make you want to weep and fill you with anger at the brutality, but it also fills you with compasson and admiration for those able to survive.
